Unless it has the lastest PS3 firmware already installed, that, unfortunately, is not the case.

I thought it was a good idea to change my 80gb to a 250gb WD some time ago, worked fine inniatially, but PS3 crashed and would do nowt until I re-installed the latest firmware from scratch, done this 3 times (each time losing all my game saves) I ditched it and put the 80gb back in, (which I was using as an external drive with a laptop by now, so was formatted) re-installed the lates firmware and it has been fine since then.

Possibly co-incidence but I done exactly the same with both drives with different results (touch wood..lol).

Just a point worth considering if looking to replace your PS3 HD.

It does look to be a good price though for a 320gb, I paid, albeit some time ago, more for a 250gb.

Depends what size you want, but the 500GB version is still £49.99 on Play.com. Otherwise, good buy!

Sony have fixed the fw hdd problem, download the 3.41 update from the website and try again as it's a different file and is working now.

Message on the Playstation Blog:

For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: we are aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.

To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

This drive has known problems with the PS3...

There have been problems with the WD Scorpio drives regarding iPlayer and some games, there are more details below from AVforums. I had first hand experience, I never had any problems with iPlayer until I upgraded to a 320GB Scorpio. However, when I traded in my upgraded Phat 60GB PS3 for a Phat 120GB version (an offer on here), the problems disappeared and all was well with the World once again.

Not trying to wreck the deal just think that folks should know as it is a known problem...

Click here for info on the problem...

I replaced my 40g (back in the day) wth this drive a few weeks back and it has worked fine - although did take me 2hrs to remove those soft screws and had to bend the drive cage to get the last one out !!

Before getting the last screw out I did ring Sony to see if I could get a replacement - they were great - said will see if they have any from returned units - 2 days later got a call from a nice lady who said will send me out one that day - 2 days later it arrived...with a full set of screws, job done - using it to replace my nephews drive in his..makes me a cool Uncle :)
