Seconded!

Any of the one

Jeez - I am running in village idiot mode :p  :x :-D :whistling:

I bought one of these about a month ago when they wer £59.99 DOH!

Anyway, I think they are very good, they auto power on when the computer comes on if you leave it plugged in.

Mine came formated as FAT32, which is fine unless you want to store any files on it over 4gb in size like an image of a DVD.
Not a problem though I just reformated to NTFS and then I could do it.
#6
how big is it?

im looking for a portable one, i know this isn't teschnically portable, but it looks pretty small
#7
God dammit, bought this for £69.99 four weeks ago from eBuyer. Very very good deal, voted HOT!
#8
I've said this on here before about these drives, they are unreliable. I got one from Ebuyer in March and it lasted a month before XP wouldn't recognise it. Quite a few negatives on Amazon for this drive although Ebuyer reviews are favourable.

I'm still trying to recover my data from it before sending it back to Ebuyer.

good deal.

my samsung drive that i bought 2 months ago went bad. ebuyer have agreed to replace it and even pick it up. great customer service as per. Only problem i have is their members login service :( i cant login or "forgot my password" in order to arrange a collection and its doing my head in arghhh lol

It's fairly chunky. In terms of measurements, it's way out of the credit card range, and probably into the King Size Snickers sort of area. It's about the length of a King Size Snickers, about the height of one on its side, and about as wide as maybe five or six King Size Snickers bars on their side and pushed together. Alternatively, it's about the size of a normal DVDRW drive. It comes with a power supply too (which isn't massive, about the same size as 3 Kit Kats stacked) , making it even less pocket-friendly for moving it around.

It's a fairly decent drive, mind you. Performance is rather poor (you're looking at about 30MB/s transfer rates maximum, which compares to up to 90MB/s trasnfer rates for internal Samsung Spinpoint drives costing less money), but the drive is blissfully quiet, and it seems quite happy to turn itself on and off automatically, which is a neat time-saving feature for the energy concious.

No it has its own power supply. the drive shuts down on its own when you turn off the computer and comes back on when you turn the computer back on.

Thanks for that Ive just cancelled my orer over the phone. Can anyone in the know point me to a similar product that runs off the USB?

Ta very much!
#20
you will need a 2.5 inch drive to run off the USB ports, and sadly, smaller means more expensive in general.
#21
These are decent external hard drives, I use them regually and the cases are as solid as a rock.

Ahh, that's why it wouldn't copy across large files from my pc:x I spent hours splitting various home videos in smaller files before I could transfer them. I suppose there is no way to change to NTFS now without first deleting the contents of the drive first?
#24
@ tooheys30,

Should be fine if you google for "partition software" and find something then just change the filesytem to NTFS and it should be fine and keep your data.

i dont have a favourite film. this is a joke. secret question which is so secret it doesnt exist
#29
Can you remember the secret question you entered when you signed up? Whatever you typed for the answer would go in that box, I assume.
#30
have you tried highlighting the space where the question should be? i.e hold left mouse button and drag across. This is sometimes used as a security measure to hide questions and confuse/mislead potential idiots. good deal but just got a western digital EHD arrive today!

its for a return, so this is not possible

i had to call their stupidly expensive 0871 number

"welcome to ebuyer, your call me be recorded for quality measurement purposes"
"welcome to ebuyer, your call me be recorded for quality measurement purposes"
"please select from these 2 options or hold for an operator"

hold music......

more hold music.......

then a 10second conversation. Always the same with these companies. Why dont they do a callback service like BT? And why do you have to be told twice by 2 different recordings the same damned message?

you love your chocs, don't you :)

Oh My! How'd I guess :p

I don't eat chocs so I have no idea how big a king size snickers is! doh!

How many fingers of Fudge is this?

Is it longer in length than a Crunchy?

Is it noisier than a box of Smarties?

My western digital has been as reliable as a packet of mint imperials. What brand is the drive here - Maxtor are as good as a chocolate teapot.

Thank you; you've been a great crowd. I'm here all week.
