I thought it was a good price.

My last deal the buffalo 1tb at £62 got very hot.
This works out a touch cheaper AND does not carry any stupid tv confusing software.
#3

#4
very good deal! you beat me to posting it OP ;-)
#5
Good price, but good luck with returns if it fails... I'd rather pay extra and buy from somewhere else

Roasting.

That's because people never bother to mention 2.5" when they list portable drives. A desktop 3.5" drive is also "portable" because it can be taken easily from a to b :)

im so tempted too with this, but im waiting for the day a 1tb is this price, as im not desperate at the moment and if i wait i will never need another HD again i think haha
#12
Excellent price - wish I actually needed this!
#13
Bargain!

How can I justify getting one?

Does anyone know if the drive inside is the standard height? I'd be looking to transplant it into my laptop...
#19

Great price - nice find OP.
Heated.

Ordered a WDTV live on the deal last week my first media player.

Would this be the sort of drive i could sit under the TV next to it?

If so is it possible to watch content from this HD without the need for streaming whilst a PC is on somewhere?

They shouldn't need to, it's long been accepted that "portable drives" are the portable, small, 2.5" variety whilst external/desktop hard-drives are the 3.5" models with a separate power supply. If people can't figure that out for themselves, it's their loss.

there's no excuse for stupidity X)

my tower PC is hardly "portable" compared to a laptop but I can carry that from a-b with all the power leads etc. ;)
#24
Taking a laptop and a 3.5 drive around with you is like carrying 2 laptops out with you!

just fill the drive with files and play through the WDTV to your TV - bish bash bosh :)

no PC required.

Hot, thanks! Just ordering. I wanted a 1tb but this will suffice!!
#27

To be fair "portable" isn't that obvious. 3.5" drives are still easily portable in a standard backpack.

However, if it said 2.5" or USB powered it would still get the same comments... just not by people who understand the difference.

Oh, and HOT.

How reliable are 2.5" external drives?

I need to expand the HDD space on my Revo and this seems perfect but I don't want to lose my library if these things die easily.

194 in stock. Hurry up before it goes!!!!
#31
thats the enclosure size, i think this is a 9.5mm hdd. if that's the case it will fit in the ps3

Usually pretty good, my oldest one is a 120GB WD Passport and it's still going strong four years later. It gets used almost every day now too, I use it to play media via my PS3 so it's always being moved between PC and PS3.

I have the 500gb and 320gb versions of this drive and they are great. Work perfectly with the Wii and my LG tv. The mini USB plug looks and feels very loose over time BUT they are both going strong :)

That said I've not bought one yet, I'd also prefer 1tb

google "Wii usb loader" or "wiiflow" - they're used to play game backups and homebrew directly from the hard drive rather than using discs.

You can still use it as an external on the PS3 i.e. simply leave it plugged in to one of the usb ports all the time. You will need to format it first though.
