Would be decent price if 3.0 but it isn't.

Nice price for 1TB

Pretty ordinary price, IMO

I have one of these and it had a very SMALL knock, and I mean small, it tipped backwards and rested against the wall. It now only powers up, and I can't access anything at all. Have tried loads of programs to recover my photos and stuff, didn't have any success, so I then took it to a few places, and they want between £400 and £600 to recover my stuff on it. They all said that Western Digital are very cheap parts, and very expensive to replace or fix, and they also supply the parts in Fujitsu casings. Not voting it cold, as this is based on my opinion, not on the deal find.

take the drive out of the caddy and use Encase on it :)

Recently got the same set up. Have you got one backing up the other? I think the World software is better than the Essentials Smartware. But the World doesn't seem to want to let me backup to it if I plug the Essential into it. Need to give it five and have a decent play around but any advise is always appreciated.

I got this drive from Currys using the five quid voucher. It is slick and appears to do the job plus has the automatic backup. It has some negative reviews but there has been an update since a lot of them so all good from me.

If you can't recover the data using Encase, then you really are going to struggle - this is what is used by governments / law enforcement agencies / corporations etc.

I've been using it for almost 10 years now - great bit of software :)

Was just looking to buy this myself...same price at Amazon, there are a lot of bad reviews though so unsure what to go for http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-External-Drive/dp/B002KPW5JM/ref=sr_ob_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296562117&sr=8-1

IMHO, this isn't an ordinary price but a pretty good one as these normally cost at least a tenner more.

Probably being dis-continued to make way for the USB3.0 range.

I have a similar setup to one of the posters above - I have two of these drives backing each other up.

I store all my data on the primary drive and regularly sync it onto the secondary one using a great piece of software called Karen's Replicator: http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp

my drives are not connected the normal dive is for films and the my book world is used for sharing files across the network

but the my book world has a USB port on the back but i thought it was to share usb drives across the network not for backing it up -- not tried either so could be wrong
