Description:
As hard drive capacities increase, the power required to run those drives increases as well. WD Caviar GP makes it possible for energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation.

Key Features

Reduced power consumption - WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to competitors drives with the combination of WD's IntelliSeek, IntelliPark, and IntelliPower technologies.

Helps enable eco-friendly PCs - WD Caviar GP drives yield average drive power savings of 4-5 watts over competitors drives making it possible for our energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation. This power savings equates to reducing CO2 emission by up to 13.8 kilograms per drive per year - the equivalent of taking a car off the road for 3 days each year*. By using environmentally-conscious PCs with our WD Caviar GP drives on board, large organizations with many desktop computers can minimize their carbon footprint and save real money on electricity costs.

*Assumes that a car produces 1.60 CO2 pounds per Kwatt/hours/year. Calculation of automobile emissions depends on the car's g/km emission levels and km/year of driving.

Cool and Quiet - GreenPower technology yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives.

Perfect for external drives - External drive manufacturers can eliminate the need for a fan in a high-capacity product with a WD Caviar GP drive, the coolest and quietest in its class. External drives with WD Caviar GP drives on board can save up to $14.00 per year in electricity costs. See our power savings chart for details.

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, GreenPower drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads on systems as they are booted.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration. View demo >

IntelliPark - Delivers lower power consumption by automatically unloading the heads during idle to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

StableTrac - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations.

Great price. Really nice drive. Not the fastest, but actually faster than average. Really impressive is the Noise / power performance of these drives. Would be ideal for sky-hd box or mediacentre :)

Voted Hawt!

It was nice to find one in the price bracket that wasn't a Samsung F1!!

Hotness.

I have a WD1000FYPS in a Sky HD box, obviously not the same model but worth using the Hitachi disk tools to enable acoustic management. Really does make the driver quieter.

Brilliant price, hot

Do enjoy my Samsung's, but this looks good. Ideal for my NAS box as I don't need huge read/write speeds.
...must resist.

Not necessarily a comment about this drive, but...

All 1TB drives should be dropping in price fairly soon due to Seagate's 1.5TB offering that is due out in the next few weeks.

1.5TB SATA-300 7200rpm for less than £140 means tough competition for 1TB drives unless their prices start to drop.

It also means more bargains on the horizon :-)

Until then, this is a great price for a great looking drive, voted hot.

"The GP does easily draw the least amount of power of any 3.5" drive we've ever tested... less than 1/2 of any other unit when idle. Even under a full seek, the GP enjoys an advantage of over 30% over the typical 7200 RPM SATA drive. In what almost seems like an ancillary effect, the GP also happens to be the quietest drive we have ever measured and heard here at SR. Its miniscule power dissipation also translates into far less need for cooling which yields yet more acoustic benefit."

From here.

Its not a samsung which is a massive plus point...

How? With the cheapest delivery this comes to £88.01. I'm not trying to sabotage this deal, I'm just trying to buy one and would love to know if there is some way to get it at the price shown by the OP apart from driving to Manchester.

#20
Will this drive fit in my Sky plus box does anyone know?

It did seem like a good deal but just checked the warranty online and mine says OEM , so not covered for the full 3/5 year WD. Check your drive to see if you have full warranty :x
#22
The ad clearly states 3 years - have you contacted Aria?
#23
Now showing as £70.44 + £8.17 postage which is £78.61 in total.
