Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive £119.99 Delivered Ebuyer - 2yr Warranty

bezbez

- 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive
- Intellipower Technology
- 64MB Cache
- 2 Year Manufacturer Warranty

Before anyone says its only 5400, slower than Barracuda etc. - This is a green drive. It's slower because it uses less power, runs cooler etc.

Has 2yr warranty and generally seen as more reliable imo.

Not been this low since October.

+ Free Acronis Trueimage (added automatically at checkout).
+ Potential Quidco

The barracuda is super fastt! 5400rpm is a no go. Who cares about saving energy!

Err when a server is on 24/7... and speed is not an issue, i.e. just streaming movies maybe? :)

Erm this drive is aimed at people who are using it for storage, backups etc, 5400rpm is more than enough for that.

What do you use a 3TB drive for ? a OS ? if so buy the Seagate then.

    This is a Hot deal.

I transfer data back and forth, extract files, that extra speed really makes a difference.

Still does not make this a cold deal as ppl do just use the 24/7 for streaming etc.

I'd still get that Seagate from Amazon...

Cool amd quiet drive, low power comparably. If none of those things match your needs then buy something else, personally love these for htpcs and backup arrays..

Hot, the only way to go in a Home Server! Two years warranty is worth far more than a few nanoseconds! I can't even see why you'd want a 3TB 7200 rpm drive in a PC, surely - even for video editing - a 1TB 7200rpm drive would be quicker and more practical - and you'd be able to back it up!

    2% TCB at Dabs.
I might be tempted at this price to add to my NAS... voted hot.

2yr Warranty on WD , only 1yr on Seagate , I know which one I would buy for my backup system

That would be... almost everybody, with any sense that is. As 3TB Storage, is exactly that "Storage" you don't need speed (not that you would even notice anyway) Most technically minded use an SSD for their Main OS.

The 1ywarranty prone to failure Seagate Barracuda, is just right for you :p

YET AGAIN, isn't this site about the price for this particular item, not whether it is fit for your individual needs - FFS!

What was the cheapest this got to pre-flood?

I have one of these in my home server which is brilliant. I have a gigabit network and can move stuff at about 70mb/s off from this hdd to another pc over the network. I also can stream videos etc from the hdd over the network to my iPad through wireless with no problems what so ever. I don't think the upgrade to a 7200rpm would make a difference at all.

The 2TB version of these drives will give a sustained 120 megabytes a second, the seek time may be slow, but if you're that worried about seek times you'd run an SSD for the O/S drive and big clunker for data storage.

It wouldn't make any difference, as the throttling factor in all of this is your network, not the hard drive. So good example of where this drive would be ideal.
