The drives in these ait that bad, its the enclosure, i've got 5 of the old models which are metal and loose the heat better, these just overheat and will shorten the drive life.

I wondered why the goldfish was giving the PC such a wide berth.........

These last a year until the pre-sabotaged power bricks fail and you are out of warranty. WD Elements power cables are propriatary and can not be purchased elsewhere. Mine just failed and i replaced it, obviously not with another western digital drive!

Just ask Dustin here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLBL-2InocA

Happy now Newbold? Feel free to take the risk, but google "Western digital broken power" before you make an uninformed decision on a cheap thing that will cost you long term.

Not keen on WD myself. Usually go with Iomega. Looking at the moment for a larger drive, but just waiting for the right deal - this one's not for me. :)

Umm, rather than paying so much for a replacement power brick, why not remove the hard drive and put it in a new caddy? You can buy them on play for like £7 I believe, probably less than a fiver on dealextreme.

heat added though for the price...

I bought the iomega 1.5tb for less than this at pcworld with the 10% discount voucher. Also has a 3 year warranty

That's exactly what I did, a nice shiny LaCie one, but it should be noted that the company are pure evil. Many people wouldn't know and just fork out for the replacement in order to save their data, held hostage.
