Shame it is only USB 2.0. :-(

Fantastic drive which i own and am very tempted to get another but for me it has to at least have usb 3.0 now.

Cheaper at pixmania (£72.50) but postage makes it higher.

Still hot, but would need to come down another £10 before i'd buy.

Great drive quiet and runs cool have some heat!

Hot, nice drives, i hate all the iomega crap that gets posted on here. iomega = data loss, i learned the hard way. WD drives are great imo, id buy this if i had the cash. One thing to note is that these drives go to sleep when not in use to preserve the lifespan of the drive, this gets annoying if you use the drive to play wii (or other console) games from, spend 10 mins on a level of a game and it will hang when trying to load the next level as the drive is asleep and the console cant wake it up.
Great for sticking your movie collection on tho!

Wow, anyone got any more hard drive deals to post today, before I go to bed?!

Hot, again!

20 quid + more for usb 3 equivalent, not worth it for my uses.
#7
USB 3.0 is not necessary for the price IMO

Is much quieter, and cheaper. And this coming from someone who owns both.

You will get around 31MB/s write speed on the iomega which is not bad at all. Those saying shame it's not usb3 etc do not have a clue, you will not magically get faster write speeds etc just because it's usb3. They are still the same drive internally.

Yes, but the data throughput from USB3.0 connections will allow HDs to reach read/write capabilities of nearer 70+MB/s. Both read and write throughput will increase and time spent waiting will decrease - hence "faster" overall.

Good point! Still, it would be nice to see a further reduction in the price of this item.

About to order one of these, popped onto this site first to see if there were any good deals. Hot from me :-)

One thing to remember folks make sure you format the drive when you get it, just do a quick format.
There was a bunch of these shipped from the factory and had a slight fault in the format they were given, google it and you will see.
Your PC will see the drive maybe, but other things you may connect it to may not like the WDTV Live, like I said I just did a quick format when I got mine and it did the trick and I have not had a single issue with it, in fact I have just ordered another 2TB drive to back up my first 2TB drive, lol.

I have this drive. Its smaller than it looks in the picture, super quite, and feels very robust. You cant go wrong with this.

Bad luck perhaps? I recon you will find alot of WD drives in iomega clothing....

That link kinda killed this deal (unless ebuyers shipping is big).

I brought this drive at 75 quid before vat rise and it died after I transferred 1tb of data onto it...but I will reflect on others about it being quiet/inconspicuous.

I'll be honest and say that I don't want others to think my experience is the norm....but remember don't put all your eggs in one basket. Back up all your important files to DVD if possible so you don't lose them because of hardware failure.

over 50 quid and postage is free but slow

I use my external for movies connected to a movie player - the films are backed up to 2 HDD's on RAID 1 in PC
