I got this hard drive bought it for the same price, in about October last year. Nice hard drive works great still havent filled half.

I've got two and would strongly recommend them. I'm tempted two buy another pair for my ever increasing library of H.264 MP4's.

I have one of these as well (got off ebuyer when it was 72 inc p&p) a few months ago. Really good, bit of a hiss when idle, but i think most external drives are like this. No power on and off switch - remove drive by safely removing it. Made in Thailand or Malaysia, no joke that's what it says. Thank god WD are not made in China, hate seagates since they moved to china, they're so loud, hot and unreliable!!!

Good price but its an old offer which was available last year on E-buyer

Great drive, has really good power management compared to other drives, it turns itself off when its not in use which is great for use as a NAS drive or permanently connected drive (it turns back on when it is accessed).

I wish I could swap my **** LaCie drive with no power management for another one of these, well worth the extra few pounds.

I have the 400GB version of this - been fantastic for me, but managed to fill it within a couple of weeks and not got around yet to burning the junk (read: porn) to DVD

I have a NAS drive as well (LanDisk i think it's called), but it only has what i think is a usb b- the square one as well as the ethernet obviously. Is that why I couldn't connect the NAS drive via usb printer cable to pc to use as USB transfer (much faster than 10/100 ehernet)? Would a female to female cable work?

Cheers

YEah sure, just need some help using this program, downloaded the 30 day trial.

I was tempted by this at this price, but there seem to be a significant number of people on the amazon site commenting that it's great for a month or two, but then they seem to be prone to faults... would've liked a 500gb drive though! Decisions....!

Ive had mine for a good 5months, and can't fault it, not even a little bit, its left on most of the time when my pc's on so is on a fair bit and theres never been any problems.
#14
Had one of these for 4 months now, great drive. However they come formatted as FAT32, Best to convert to NTFS before putting anything on it.

Anyone know how this compares to the La Cie (Porsche design) that's a little cheaper?

LaCie = No power management (hdd always on)
WD = Power Management (MUCH less overall activity when idle)

Also, with the LaCies, there are more people who have major problems with it than not - quite possibly due to the fact they have no power management.

Been on the look out for one of theses for a while. The other Porsche designed one seemed to have lots of complaints & this one seems to be slightly more reliable.
Fingers crossed :)

yeah but the PS3 only accepts FAT32 formatted drives so I would leave it as this (if you had a PS3 !!)

if you had a file > 4 Gb in size use DVDShrink and compress it to get around the FAT32 max file size limit

Do you know what happens with Amazon.co.uk price refunds? I'm sure I heard somewhere about them refunding the difference if the price drop within a certain amount of days.
Do I have to contact them? Or do they contact me?
