Do all WD elements 1TB+ need power supply?

I'm using WD Passport (past 3 years) and WD element 500GB past year, and need more storage, but running out of USB ports on my dell pc.

What's best way to get round this without slowing down R/W of new external hard drive? (which is what happened when I tried to use a USB hub port at back of my dell).

Thanks

No you can get WD Elements portable versions 1TB which only need usb power. The one posted here is a DESKTOP version not the PORTABLE version. If you want usb powered get Elements PORTABLE but they are a lot more expensive than this. Cheers.

Good price, just got one from amazon and it was £72

Good deal, almost makes it seem surreal to think my first PC had a whopping 4GB drive in it.

Just received my 1.5 tb from pixmania for £49. This is a good deal for 2tb.

Thanks. I hadn't realised there were two types. The last element I got must have been portable then, but it's always plugged into my usb port and very quiet without needing power.

I just need to get a good usb hub to plug them into.
