i bought the iomega (sold on here today) about a month ago...... excellent drive.

Couldnt fault it at all, metal casing which is very strong....

1 thing though is the usb connection is abit loose, nothing major...

Still stock in Warrington and Bolton (and others)

Can this drive be ripped out easily and placed into a PS3 does anyone know? (Desperately looking online for the answer) It would be great if it can.

Then I can put the old PS3 drive into the case and still use the drive as a backup!

If they are anything like the Passport drives, then WD uses cheaper drives with only 2MB of cache onboard, rather than the 8MB you get with the bare drives to put into notebooks. False economy to buy one of these if you are intending to put it in a notebook IMHO.

Picked one up from Bradford last night, great price. Is now attached to my Mac mini to back up and share music over my network. Hotness.
#21

yes is the short answer
or you could stream to your xbox if you have wired (or wireless) connection to your pc and TVersity uploaded on the pc
#27
Excellent would vote hot but seems expired!! Just got back from Farnborough branch I bought one, now two left on bottom shelf. (in-store system only showed 2, but found 3 on shelf). Unable to reserve online (no stock showing!), but staff happy to web price match in-store (just mention webprice at checkout). Many thanks to OP...
#28
Thanks J9STL, I already stream my music from my PC but it means turning it on each time, whereas with the hard drive I could just fire that up instead. I'd rather just have an external HD using power than my PC and monitor as well as the Xbox! I might look into getting one of these then.

Not true - this is a 5400rpm drive.

If you're looking to put one in a laptop, then spend an extra £10 on a 7200rpm drive - http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php?products_id=76019 - they're much quicker in real-world use (ie, boot time !). Power consumption is broadly the same.
#30
bargain but none anywhere near londinium!
how annoying! :@
#31
is this better than the 320gig portable one at tesco recently for £45?
#32
Just got 2 of these an hour ago from Telford.....

Here's the score, online showed no stock, yet in store you could see them on the shelf, there were only 2, PC World's systems will not allow release of Collect In Store if stock shows below 3 - a jobsworth would tell you thats that, but thankfully a helpful member of staff pursued it and adjusted the stock levels to 5 to allow a Reservation No and the 2 to be released, then after selling them adjusted the stock levels back.

Now all you have to do is find some on the shelf and hope there isnt a jobsworth on duty - good luck!
#33
i got one of the tesco iomega ones ,very happy with it.
#34
None in Glasgow! Great price if you can find one.

Yay Ive managed to get one reserved at Warrington - they were out of stock last night, so if you've missed out it might be worth trying again.

If anyone has got one of these & taken the drive out, do you know the model number? I'm looking to swap it with my 160G laptop drive, but I'm not keen if its only a 2Mb buffer, it'll probably be too slow.... My 160 is only 5400, so Im not too bothered about the spindle speed.
Thanks to all for info so far....

Hello, sorry didnt take a note of the model number, but I did exactly what you are trying to do, upgraded a 160GB Dell to a 320GB :) works fine. It is Sata of course. Wont notice the speed difference anyway on the machine as its running VISTA! :)

As for cloning software, I would recommend Clonezilla, http://www.clonezilla.org/ . Its free under GPL and quite powerful. Needless to say with all software utils like this, use with caution! :) .
