Just so you know, some of the reviews on Amazon state they had problems registering with WD for warranty as out of region and some state only 2 years warranty as OEM, not 3 years as with retail?
My first deal, so hope I've done it right...

The green is fine.

Great price , but these drives dont work properly if your on windows 8 and using an ssd as primary drive , the green hangs and freezes all the time never an isue on windows 7 . So if you have an ssd and windows 8 you have to give this a miss. google it everyone had the same issue with green drives. Heat still added

I wonder why...?

I have five of these 2TB ones in my HP microserver along with a 64GB SSD drive for the operating system, which is Windows 8.1. It has never missed a beat and works fine.

I've got 2TB greens in my computer and they work fine no issues at all running windows 8. Unless its the larger capacity drive specifically.

As above all five of mine are perfect in the Microserver with an SSD for the Win 8.1. The only thing that I did was to turn off the very frequent park feature using wdidle3. Whether that helps or not I do not know but they have been in that setup for ages with no issues at all.

It might be an issue with the larger 4TB drives, as noted above...?

Seems a good deal OP and heat added :)

I'm obviously one of the unlucky ones then , I'm still using the drive now and tbh its been ok for a couple of days , running defreggler a couple times helped but it still goes to 100% use sometimes without nothing using it ? Saving for a black drive now.

Not slagging WD drives either , WD are a good brand to trust

I had my 2T for 3 years and still not filled up. But still a HOT

lol - just noticed that I have had one also in my main PC for years, I thought that it might have been another "colour". But no its a WD Green and that is also with a SSD drive for the Win 8.1 install. Albeit a 2TB WD Green, with the frequent head parking turned off.

WD is indeed a brand to trust, in my experience. Their technical support and replacement policy is second to none.

Reds are recommended due to them supporting better data recovery systems. More designed to be run in RAID type setups, and 3 year warranty. More expensive and I'd imagine nearly identical so if it's for stuff that's not vitally important, media etc, Greens will be fine.

Remember to get backups of your RAID though, as it's entirely possible 2 could fail and then it's all gone. Especially if they're manufactured at the same time and live the same life.

Nope.

The issues are from the heads parking. mine does it pretty much all the time it hasn't been accessed for a while. those using them in the Micro server probably won't experience this with them being raided.

I basically use mine as a storage dump, ie infrequent access. If it poses that much of an issue, you can always schedule a write every 20-30secs if you want, or just pay more for a red

still waiting for these to get to ~£75, but could do with another refurb 1tb for another dump area
