There are cheaper 1TB drives out there: E.g Buffalo for £94.99

There's this alternative: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/144824 which is about £10 cheaper but much uglier.

and for the same product,
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/137323

which was on here a few weeks ago. Just options.

These ones switch thmesleves on when you turn your machine on and off when you shutdown your pc.

You could go in-store at PC World to get this cheaper (£3.50 less) using their price promise (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/price-match-promise) if you don't want to wait for delivery/have a PC World near you.

excellent needed one of these.......

I recently got one - it's very quiet and very cool as it contains the Green Power drive inside.

By default it's formatted to FAT32, so I changed it to NTFS without any issues. Transfer rate is a little slow, other that that it's a great way to backup data.

We thought it would be a problem when backing up the PS3, but we didn't even have to convert it - old skool!

I have a 250GB model, it does it's job. Although I will say that it can be a tad-bit noisy!

I have the same and its a very solid bit of kit. Excellent for backing up of those important files, and the auto power off/on with the PC is a great feature

Few points, that should help.

The drive only spins when accessed thus the initial slow access, but once its starts spinning (you access the drive) its fine, and apparently this is good and prevents the drive from getting damaged when not in use. Data speed is only USB you can get the firewire/esata version for £125? if your looking for speed. It does not have a fan so theres no sound from one, the only sounds you will hear are HDD head read/write clicking. It turns off with your PC and turns on with your PC. Or put it another way turns off when USB plugged in turn off when USB plugged out (you should safely remove).
