#4

#5

#6
I would say that as its not online it is in store :P
#7
Oh - especially as that is what the title says :D
#8
They are in store only!
#9
just to add to the original post those cheap divx players in asda won`t play of an external hard drive , well it would`nt read my 120 gb external anyways.
#10
could not find in my local asda(24hours store with other computer stuff) is it available in all stores? and staff unaware of any such deal.
banned#11
I bought this from ebuyer for £50 it is a good hard drive all in all
#12
thanks sim11 for clearing that up coz i have this same HDD. which DVD Player will read this hard drive?

I payed 69.99 around 8 months back. totally amazing HDD, just wished it had a larger capacity. turns on and off when computer is powered on or off.

ive taken it abroad without any probs too.
#13
Just get a divx player that has a USB port on the front, it should work (unless it dosn't have enough power, external power supply?).

You might have to format the drive to FAT16/32 for the divx player to read it though.
#14
Yep as Jelly said format to a FAT file system (not 100% sure which one), switch on the Hard Drive BEFORE turning the DVD player on ans it should work, well that's what people are saying about the Philips divx players anyway.

I think this does have an external power supply. Anyway the Asda refund policy is good enough to return to for refund (28 day quibble guarantee), so it may be worth the risk trying.

With regards to availability, ring up your local store and ask them have they got one in stock, if so can they keep it for you (usually they can keep it for 24 hours)

if only this was the case , yes you are correct that it needs formatting to fat , but i have had 4 different divx players with usb on and only one had accepted and external hard drive , phliips dvp 5690 , also i read that the model down 5190 also works fine , both at amazon for under £40.

The WD My Book comes already formatted to FAT32. When used with a Philips the hard disk does not have to be turned on first as it turns on automatically when the Philips is turned on.

The 'My Books' are excellent low-priced external hard drives, i've been using them for a while now. Under £40 is a real bargain.

i have a yamada divx player with a usb port and i was trying to set up a 500gb omega hd as a media player but it wouldnt read all the files on there, especially films. I'm assuming i need to format the drive, i'll have to google how to do that!! so should i format to fat 32? i'v heard something about NTFS, would that be better if i plan to use the external hardrive for a media centre.
thanks
#22
I have a Lidl "Silver Crest" (their own brand) player that reads from USB hard drive perfectly, although it's a bit slow getting the list of movies after switch-on.
#23
im looking for one to hook up to my playstation 2- are these the type of things i need? Sorry to sound dull! Cheers in advance...

For those doubters amongst you...

I went to ASDA Eastleigh.

They had on the shelf 4 x 320 gb drives and several 250gb. All reduced as mentioned.

Took the dvd case to the counter (as thats how they are displayed) - a few minuted later I was told they only had 160gb in stock!!! :x - WHY DISPLAY THEM THEN???

So I asked how much - 68 quid!! Only one not in the sale!

Was peeved off to say the least...

But there you go - they are in the sale but if you are lucky enough to find them on the shelf you have another hurdle to cross :(

Have you read the thread?
#34
erm is it me or has only 1 person managed to bag one of these for the advertised price and yet it's voted hot and half the forum has been posts about ruddy divx players?!?!?

C'mon peeps let's get back to the deal and howsabout peeps let us know what Asda stores actually stock them (or don't stock them) so that fellow forumites can make use of this deal if they can be found for the advertised price!!

:)
#35
I reckon it was only available in the store, kobirulali went in.

Where was that store?
#36
I got the deal ...kind of.. all the 250GB were sold out but i got the 320GB version for £54! which is a bargin for a western digital!

p.s i work for ASDA and i can confirm its a nationwide offer! first come first served!

Complete waste of time Asda, tried every store in a 20 mile radius phoning them or visiting, the staff either had several of the dvd cases on show with only the 160GB in stock. Denied every recieving any external hardrives, denied that they had a technology centre, even though I phoned back 5 mins later to be told that they have a 160GB yet again.

Don't even bother asking whether they can reserve one for you, they just laugh in your face and say what do you expect, this is Asda you know. So nice to know what customer service is to them. (Please note I am sure there are many helpful people who work for this company, but the bad experiences I've had today can really put off customers)

To be honest I'm glad I didn't keep searching, I've now read some VERY bad reviews regarding the "My Book" about them failing before and after just a year of use. Maybe a good deal but don't rely entirely on them...

Bit harsh dusy333. Seriously they do have these in stock at the Asda i work in. The 160Gb for some reason hasn't been reduced for whatever reason, but the 250Gb and 320Gb HAVE. Sorry to all those having a trouble getting hold of one of these, but this is a genuine deal. Check my previous posts, there's no need fo me to make stuff up!
#39
Went to ASDA Boldon & they only had the 320GB for sticker price £109. So I didn't bother to ask.
Are you sure about price?
#40
paul97 - I think kobirulali made that perfectly clear in the post above you...
