Why is this cold? It's ~17p per Gigabyte and an external drive...

Hi ai2tis, do you have one of these and if so what is the usable disc space once formatted? I also see from the description on another site that the drives are in RAID format....

I think that this is a single 1tB drive, as opposed to 2x 500gb

slightly cheeper at http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=341190

155+6 quid postage.

Worth buying just to rip the drive out. An internal 1TB drive is about £200.

Just what I was thinking - anyone know what drive is in it?

Obviously the make of drive is Western Digital. Specific number doesnt appear to be listed. But it would format to approx 960GB.

This one looks nicer with 2TB in a single drive!!

Sure it's a WD but I can't find a single 1tb WD drive anywhere - any ideas...

You will, however, kill your warranty for the drive unless you can reassemble it all perfectly if the drive fails. I doubt they'll honour any warranty on the drive if they can tell it's been taken out of the external housing.

perhaps its not a single drive but two 500gb drives in a single case. The case looks like it might be big enough to hold two drives.

The 2TB drive must be two 1TB drives as there is not a 2TB single drive available.

indeed look here, its not the exact same model, but it is a WD 1TB case and it states it uses 2 500gb drives to achieve the capacity.

The case size quoted for the 1TB drive on amazon is the same as their other full size single drive external hard drives, assuming its correct and it looks right based on the photo, then its a single drive for the 1TB

This the Mark 2 version and has only a single HDD.
The old model had 2x 500GB HDD.

This could be the HDD?

I don't have this one. It's been year and a half as I have My book Essential edition 320Gb. I'm totally satisfied with this one. But ran out of space. So decided to buy another one of the wd "My books" edition with 750Gb space. But find out that WD have new my book version on their US website.
Decided to wait and here it is in UK. I had my hands on Western Digital My Book Pro Edition 1 TB, yes it external hard disk with 2 separate hdd.
But apparently, the new my book edition is even slimmer then my old 320Gb, so I'm sure this one has only one hdd with 1TB.

I didn't ordered this one. I ordered "Western Digital My Book Home Edition 1TB" with FireWire instead by supersaver delivery. I hope it will arrive soon. :)
