Western Digital Red - The new colour of NAS.

WD Red hard drives are designed and tested for compatibility in the unique 24x7 operating environment and demanding system requirements of home and small office NAS.

Main Features:
The right choice! - No other drive is designed specifically for home and small office NAS systems.

Exclusive NASware technology - Our exclusive technology, NASwareT, makes WD Red thrive in the demanding small-NAS environment.
Energy efficient and money saving - We keep power consumption low which keeps your NAS system happy and your wallet, too.
NAS compatibility - NASware - Advanced firmware technology built into every WD Red drive, enables seamless integration, robust data protection and optimal performance for systems operating in NAS and RAID environments.
3D Active Balance Plus - Our enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves the overall drive performance and reliability. Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multidrive system, reduce the hard drive life span, and degrade the performance over time.

Energy efficient - Reduce your electricity bill and carbon footprint with WD Red drives. Innovative technology reduces power consumption and lowers the operating temperature, resulting in a more reliable and affordable solution for always on 24x7 NAS environments.

Longer warranty coverage - The WD Red drive is backed by a 3-year limited warranty for greater peace of mind.

The secret is in the technology - WD's exclusive NASware technology improves NAS storage performance by reducing common hard drive concerns in NAS systems including concerns for things like compatibility, integration, upgrade ability, reliability and cost of ownership that are experienced with a hard drive designed for desktop computers.

Enhanced reliability - Your NAS systems is always on, a highly reliable drive is essential. With a 35% MTBF improvement over standard desktop drives, the WD Red drive is designed and manufactured to be a more reliable and robust solution.

Amazon withdrew this product when they received complaints regarding the packaging

They have now re-launched this product with a new "FFP style name" to save any further confusion.

I would assume that Amazon have reduced the price to promote the new category

The product is the same but it's your decision about the packaging - at the reduced price

You can always order from CCL Computers

I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon have taken the opportunity to improved their FFP for this drive to allay any further complaints

Amazon are now saying "1 to 2 months" for delivery on this deal (you can still order and they usually deliver much sooner) but CCL Computers have plenty of stock @ £84.73 - although you might be Frustrated by CCL's excellent Free Packaging! (_;)

The difference on the WD drives between the FFP and standard packaging is the tape they use to secure the box.

For the brief time that Amazon had this drive "In stock" @ £84.73 - the "More on the way" notice was displayed - so I would assume that if you order from them now, delivery will be soon and normal "In stock" service will be resumed shortly

I ordered one of these drives from CCL Computers last year (at a £10 higher price) and the 3.15% TCB was credited to my account - so they are another option

What is the difference between Puple and Red. I know purple is for CCTV which I need, but this Red one seems better. Can anyone advise if this Red one is suitable for NVR CCTV?

Why not, they're just hard drives after all. Perform the same as the Greens.

Where are you seeing 3 year warranty? I'm only seeing one year in amazon's description

Would work just fine. Purples are just optimized better for the job, like Reds for NAS. Either Red, Green, Purple will work on a desktop and vice versa.

Why is this expired?

You can still order from Amazon (select the FFP option in the menu) and it's in stock at CCL Computers.

Reading and writing to every cluster repeatedly.

I did a couple of full drive encryptions with TrueCrypt.
