Great deal and great info. Cheers

Will this fi in a MacBook pro?
#4
The second reviewer on the page @ Amazon says yes, but that you have to format the HDD using 'Disk Utility'.
#5
Decent price +heat
#6
@rukshan. Yep, I put one in my MacBook pro a couple of months ago.
#7
I have 1 of these in my ps3 and it is a decent drive. However if you use BBC iplayer on your ps3 then I would advise getting a drive made by another manufacturer as the drive has a parking buffeting facility built into it meaning that playback on BBC iplayer is jerky every few seconds. There may be a fix for this problem but as I no longer use BBC iplayer I didn't try to resolve the problem.

This isn't 360 slim compatible. You need an official 360 hard drive for any kind of 360.

Isn't the 320GB drive for £33 a better deal than this?
banned#13
Yes the 320 gig deal is better than this. £33 for 320 gig or this... hmm....

That HDD isn't in stock; it says "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months."

If it's fox an Xbox, the 250GB HDD is better as it's cheaper and 250GB is the max size that's compatible. If it's not for an Xbox and you don't mind waiting 1-2 months, then the 320GB HDD is definitely a better deal.

I can confirm that it does work as I have one running in mine right now.

That's always reassuring as I've ordered one. I don't know what the MS price for a 250GB Slim HDD will be, but I'm sure it'll be much more than £31.28!

Most of the page is detailed pictures very few instuctions needed "it's simple" (as you probably know)

In comparision It's a one button press to change the official 360 hard drives to different sizes compared to a page of instructions on how to change a PS3 hard drive.......
---------------------------
Good price especially for upgrading the 360

Hot..

The difference is that, the instructions are in the PS3 manual, I don't think you'll find them in the 360 one :p Plus what's the odds that the "official" 360 HDD is about £75

A page of instructions needed to change a PS3 hard drive?
Yeah.

1. Remove screws
2. Pull out existing hard drive
3. Put new hard drive in

Hmm, i think i may need an extra page for that information!

I guess you are just jealous that Microsoft were so greedy as to not allow third party hard drives on their machines by default.

official 250 GB are £44.99 at irons den if you need one for 360-s just take screw out and release drive . Which voids warranty but you know

You should post that as a deal as it's a cracking price!

My HDD came yesterday and I think I'll do what's needed for it to be recognised by my Xbox later - I need more time to wake up! I'll let you all know how it goes.

Woohooo!

I've now got an extra 228GB of storage in my Xbox. I tentatively followed the guide and it worked 100%, first time! I used the SATA cable that was connected to my computer's HD (to make sure I didn't flash the wrong HD). I also attached a bit of tape to the HD to allow for a controlled drop (and removal) of the HD into the HD slot then inserted some foam around the HD once it was in the Xbox to give it stability.

I was aware that some people who've done this experienced minor problems in copying certain games saves (Forza 3 and one or two others) between HDs, but as this is my first Xbox, I never had any game saves to copy, so I've got nothing to say about that.

Right, I'm off to play some games... :D

P.s. in your face MS! :p

you could buy official 250gb one for £44 or you could try a pcmcia to sata card or express 34/54 to sata but good luck with that being recognised by hddhackr (try an NEC based one first)

Below are some pics.

1) Tape on the front of the HD

2) Tape on the back of the HD
http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af36/djwindhoek/IMG_0516.jpg?t=1283674410

3) HD in Xbox HD slot
http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af36/djwindhoek/IMG_0519.jpg?t=1283674462

4) Foam for stability
http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af36/djwindhoek/IMG_0517.jpg?t=1283674492

5) Foam around HD in the HD slot
http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af36/djwindhoek/IMG_0520.jpg?t=1283674543

P.s. Although the foam's depth is only about 5mm and it only holds the HD in place at the edge, it's a solid fit as I wedged it in. I also left a corner of the foam sticking out a bit to make sure I can grip it when I need to take it out.
#28
^hopefully the hdd can still breath and does not roast.

Why tape though ? are the drives a little thicker than original ? or is it so you got something to grip ?
#29
Yeah I used tape to give me something to grip onto when I want to remove the HD. I checked it for breath-ability and noticed that there are no air vents on the HD hatch lid thing. So as the foam only cover one end of it, I think it'll be fine.

Thanks for your post!! i'm thinking of using an official 250gb from irons den as it's only another £12 and it will have it's own unique hardware identifier.

I noticed in a few threads they say it's possible for microsoft to ban third party hard drives without a unique identifier e.g. using this method as your breaking the terms you agree to re: using third party hardware.

I've also seen similar concerns, but have yet to read about anyone who's hard drive has actually been banned! I've been on Xbox live lots of times downloading demos and have had no problems whatsoever. I think there's a bit of scaremongering going on regarding this hack.

If you've already got an official HD, then swapping cases is definitely the simplest way to go about it and if it gives you peace of mind, it sounds like the best way. I'm frugal and like to tinker and experiment with things, so the hack option appealed to my wallet and sense of curiosity!
