First time Ive seen a 500GB 2.5 "'er sub £50 inc delievry.

Would suit a laptop, SFF PC, Mediacenter etc. Also compatable with Ps3. (SATA + 5400rpm)

Never used Pricelover myself, but there are other deals on here for them , so i assume they are Kosher. Warrenty would be with WD anyway.

Some blurb :

"
Fast and efficient - With 5400 RPM spin speed and 12 ms access time and up to 3 Gb/s SATA interface speed, even the most demanding customer will appreciate the performance achieved by WD Scorpio Blue drives.

Tested for compatibility - We perform tests on hundreds of systems and a multitude of platforms in our FIT Lab and Mobile Compatibility Lab to give our customers confidence that our drives will work in their systems. "

There are other deals on the site from them going back a few months, I assume they would have been pulled if they were dodgey.
Anyone used them ?

Not sure I like the look of pricelover.com

See this thread - http://www.gamingheaven.net/retailer-discussion/191880-anyone-used-pricelover-com.html ... very suspicious of that

I can't see. Damn work firewall !

I googled and found this http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews-all-244935.html#tabs-menu

Which has good reviews going back to last year.

Probably worth a punt. Your credit card protection would cover you anyway, and if the drive became faulty, you could return it to WD.

I was wary of ordering from a company I had not heard of, especially a fairly new one and one that seemed to be cheaper than almost anywhere else. However, after some research I discovered who was behind the site. Pricelover was started by the guys behind Ebuyer who sold Ebuyer in 2004, Mike Naylor and Paul Cusack. The website is a little clunky as they are keeping costs down by using open source software but it is functional and quick to find what you want as it isn't covered in Flash adds and all the other rubbish many sites bombard us with these days.

I was looking to build myself a new, mid range system and decided to take the plunge. Order was placed around 3pm on the Wednesday and goods were delivered before 10am the following day. Items were well packaged and undamaged. I will definitely be using them again.

I ordered a 320GB laptop drive from them last month and they were fine.

Make sure you use a credit card and you should be covered if anything dodgy goes down.

They also have a Scorpio Black (7200rpm) 320GB for about £52: https://www.pricelover.com/product/60C39C

Very good drive, (not suitable for a ps3 though, for those who are looking for an upgrade).

I think the insurance that goes with using a credit card only applies to purchases over £100

I bought one about a month back for £65, and its a fantastic drive - takes seconds to install into PS3 and works like a charm playing games, watching videos etc.

It'll work fine with the PS3, but there won't be a particularly noticeable increase in performance so it tends not to be worth it.

I was refering to the WD black when I said not ps3 compatible. The scorpio blue is fine, but the WD black spins at 7200rpm, so might generate too much heat for a ps3?

I have read that faster drives, including SSD's don't really affect PS3 performance:thumbsup:
#18
Ohh sorry yeah - it should work I think at 7200 just very little point.

Heat shouldn't be a problem - on fat ps3 anyway

It will be more so with a fat PS3

You dont buy the drive for performance..you buy it for storing blurays on LMAO

The only thing thats stopping me from changing my 320gig one to this is the thought of having to reinstall all the bluray fims onto the new hard drive

As far as I'm aware, only transactions between £100 and £30,000 are protected under section 75 of the consumers act. This is the section that says that the credit provider is jointly responsible with the retailer if things go wrong.

I might be wrong though as I haven't looked into this for years.

Image the drive, using something like ghost / acronis. Then you won't have to

I've just completed a £400 order with them, and would use them again (except their prices seem to have gone up a bit, and I also don't like their delivery costs).

They did cock my order up a bit: sent me a PSU instead of a DVD-writer, and the wrong pase (Antec P180 Micro ATX instead of mini) but the collected the PSU and redelivered the DVD-writer no probs, and they also agreed (as per my terms) to offer me the amazing P180 Micro for £30 out of good will.

As I understand it, these guys are the ones who started ebuyer.com
#26
yep used em previously - got that very same hdd for my laptop didn't pay much more for it, I think it was around 60ish delivered!! they are cheap but they are decent and yes they started ebuyer.com. (theres some info on google somewhere).

Wow, these seem like great prices.

I was about to order a Western Digital 500GB 5400rpm 8MB Cache Scorpio Blue from Ebuyer for £64.00.

Could any kind soul advise me the best 500GB drive upgrade for a Compaq Mini 311c netbook?

I'm considering the above but wondered whether a 7,200RPM drive would be better for performance (Can't see a Scorpion Black but they have a Seagate Momentus). Do the same overheating problems with the PS3 apply?

Cheers

Look for a 3.5" drive for your tower. These are smaller 2.5" drives which I believe require 5V instead of 12.
#34
I'm tempted, I'm still using the default 80GB hard drive in my PS3, it'd be nice not to have to delete demos whenever I want to buy a new game. Not sure if I can warrant £50 just for convenience though. Still a great price for what it is though.

Thanks for this!

I had been eyeing up the £65 one on play.com for a while, so this is great!

This would be faster for your netbook, with less storage (320GB).

I got one of these for £80 in my Macbook Alu about a year back and it installed perfectly with no problems.

Bargain for the Price. heat added

Thanks, I think it would be better to forgo the extra storage for the increase in speed, since the netbook seems a bit slow. I'm guessing the extra heat should not be a problem since these are designed for notebooks?

Wondering whether the 500GB 7,200 Seagate (storage and speed) is worth the extra?
#40
anyone know of a decent 2.5" enclosure?

I got one of these the other day for my PS3 and I want to make the 80GB hard drive into a portable back up :D

Also, I have not bought from pricelover as the other week they had a tv for £17... didn't think it was on the up and up.
