Damn, if only it was the 500gb version :(.

Is there a cheap way to get one of these into the second bay of a Dell studio 17 inch laptop ? Last time I checked all the bits came to about 35 quid as they had to come from the US...
#3
Think carefully before getting one of these, I got the 500gb version and BBC i player stutters every ten seconds exactly as its being cached, doesnt do it on my 80gb phatty or on the 120gb hard drive.

it drives me mad

good drive, bought it about 2 weeks ago for £43.

Hot! Even cheaper than before.
Got one for my Macbook about a year ago and it's been running fine.

I agree, you have to be very careful about drives and what you intend to use them for, particularly if you plan to watch or stream video.

I had a Segate drive that would stutter in a Tivo, replacing it with a Samsung cured that.

Good deal though.

Other people have reported 320gb having no problems, the other people who have had this stutter problem have had either 320gb or 500gb's though.

Im thinking of sticking this one in my laptop and gettting a toshiba hard drive as the stock ps3 drives are Toshibas.

Are any 2.5 inch drives ps3 compatible? I'd definately have brought this but insomniacs got me worried!
#12
What is the maximum amount of memory hardrive that can be put on a PS3 which is compatable at the moment?

Is it 500GB?

What about 1Tb? when can we expect these to be available for the PS3

The last time I had this problem was with a Maxtor HDD and I have been told that the NCQ feature on the drive that is causing the problem and it seems to case the problem with certain graphic card in the computer. Disabling the NCQ will solve the problem.

My PS3 came with a Seagate Harddrive - so thats not correct.

I have had this drive in my PS3 for over a month now with no issues at all.

Theoretically there should be 1tb 2.5 drives compatible in the future but not all will be, most new drives will work but always best to double check. These babies work fine for everything else, I have 300gb of films on mine and they all stream perfectly, its JUST the BBCi and the unofficial bbc iplayer didnt do it so its strange, youll never get sony or bbc to fix it though because its not a problem with the stock harddrive, believe me, ive tried

interesting, could very well be the problem as ncq 'stacks' commands but there is no way to disable it , if its even enabled on the ps3

What size/model

when i say stutters, exactly every ten seconds the HD light will flash on for a split second and the picture will freeze for that second

I don't get what the fuss is? This is a thoroughly average price for a 320gb 2.5 sata drive?

Why not get a 500gb Samsung, also PS3 compatible for £59 instead? :)

Works out exactly the same £ per Gb
#22
Anyone got any idea which would be better for the Sony 3? This or the 500gb?

Depends on whether you think you need a 500GB.
There is no advantage in buying the 500GB if you won't use it all anytime soon.

not entirely sure its about the £ per Gb - maybe for some, but its how much you want to spend at the end of the day.

you may be able to get an even bigger hard drive for a lot more money, which still equals the £ per Gb - this is a good price for a 320gb hdd, if someone wants to spend £59 on a hdd then the above deal is also good - it would have been better if it was substantially lower in £ per Gb.

THE PRICE HAS GONE UP

I think it's a 360GB but not sure and cant remember which brand.
I tried iplayer again last night and it was fine. But pic quaility is not as good as bbc so wont bother using it anyway.
