What's the difference between this and the Apple TV?

Apple TV has an (arguably) nicer interface, and built in wi-fi; and provides integration with iPhones, iPods and iPads through Airplay. But only streams off the net or an iTunes library, and only in Apple-supported formats, and only at 720p

This is cheaper, plays (far) more formats, and will play them at full 1080p; and can play from a range of servers / file shares / USB drives. Haven't yet found anything this wouldn't play

I have one of these and can't fault it barring a few minor niggles in a few firmwares but really it plays pretty much anything I give it. It can even tell you the weather now too.

just ordered guys can't wait to receive - recently got a blu-ray player for first time LG BD550 £60 from RGB Direct - great player but stopped playing dvd's after few days - got for MKV format - so not gnna bother with dvd's anymore can't wait to get streaming with this. I've also got 4 homeplug adaptors now from Ebuyer which do an amazing job and def better than wi-fi!! Any tips for using this box appreciated!
