Thanks Guys ordered, now who wants a popcorn hour a-110 lol
#5
Why these don't offer iplayer, 4OD etc i'll never know.
#6
How does this differ to the WD Live HD box apart from the 1TB drive? as I would have thought it's more convenient to transfer files using a portable drive than an integrated one?
#7
Guys get a Boxee Box, I had the first gen WDTV and had issues with MKV Files! Then a popcorn hour which was great but now a Boxee and it is amazing! A little dearer but has BBC Iplayer, 4OD and loads more! You have a watch later option so when your at work and see a video you wanna watch later you add it to the list and its at home waiting for you.

Erm.. a boxee box is not "a little dearer"...
you can almost always get a "better" product than any deal posted on here for "a little dearer". not everyone has a money tree out back.

Besides. the boxee box has its' own set of issues...

No Iplayer 4od = Epic fail...

I already have the WD Live HD, it works a treat buy it fails in the on-line content department, facebook on it is rubbish, youtube on it is rubbish in fact everything on it aside from what its primarily for (Playing films from your NAS or USB drive) is junk!!

Can you also plug an external drive in to watch from as well as already have more than 1TB of video would want to add on?

Is this the one Boxee you are referring to ?
#12
Tried the boxee software but I prefer xmbc on a laptop myself
#13
I've got the live version and it's great if you don;t mind spending a bit of time learning about what it's capable of. The following site is a must if you get one. WDTV Enhanced Firmware

Yes you can
#15
Will it also link to an external drive on a wifi network? I have a netgear readynas duo. I suppose it is a moot point as being technically illiterate have not yet set it up!
#16
Yes providing the external drive has wireless conectivity or is connected to the network via a PC/laptop
#17
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00485HNW6/ref=oss_product also worth a consideration IF you do not need a network attached player and it has 2 TB.

I ordered an iPod Touch from Dixons a month back, so much hassle with DHL who Dixons use, I refuse use them now unless it is a stonking hot bargain

With an xbox (i assume u mean 360) you are limited to 4gb maximum file size as it will only read FAT32 formatted usb drives, also there are a few formats like MKV that the xbox wont always play.

Anybody know if there is custom firmware for the hub? can only seem to find WDlive compatible firmware
#20
Apparently it comes pre-installed with Twonky Media Server which will be ideal for me

Yeah I think after reading mixed reviews of the B-rad custom firmwares I will stick to the official stuff, invalidates ur warranty too.
#22
This is why this product is so good, is operational straight out of the box with no need to tinker!
#23
Should be getting mine delivered today! :-)

How did you do this?

I just plugged my box into my network (wired) and it prompted me to update , the box then restarts a couple of times and its done.

Im having a bit of a chew with adding folders and copying files across my network...I mapped the drive copied the files over but the video folder on the WD didnt recognize them. I have since pasted them into an existing folder and they now show up.

Strange also if you add a folder its hidden until you add content.

mmmmm will I ....won't I?....looks good...

had a couple of minor problems with mine so far, I find if i last had the box on listening to music shared over the network from my pc, If i dont switch back to internal storage before i switch off , next time i go to use it, its stuck on tryin to access music from my network, it then automaticallly turns my pc on (clever) then i can change it back and the box works again.

Also sometimes the circle orange arrow gets stuck on the screen and only unpluggin the box and pluggin back in again fixes it.

Both these issues only occur after i have access the network/media servers
