Hi
Thanks for posting. It is good practice to also add the merchant and price to the title. It helps people who are just browsing through. And in my experience your post will get a few more “hot” votes.

No HDMI, No MKV!
You can get a better spec media player with HDMI 720p from ebuyer for £19 (15.99 + 2.95), or £15.99 if you shop for a total of £49.

PS. you should add the postage cost for Scan because it's not easy to get the "free" postage.
#6
Does do 720p and 1080i through component though.

I've just spent the last 3 months converting my parents old VHS, VHS-C, 8MM and Mini DV tapes to MPEG2 and stuck them all on a 250gb hard drive attached to one of these.

This a fantastic bit of kit. The interface is nice and it's really easy to use, my parents are 75 and they got the hang of using it really quickly.

I bought the Zyxel 1000, but its very slow at slideshowing pictures. Spoke to their tech support and there is no way of speeding it up.

It says the connection is component....what does that mean?

This MEMBER should be advised to change his banner, otherwse it will encourage other political and religious nuts to market their propaganda on this fine site.:x

I think you mean COMPOSITE which is round phono plugs and certainly not HDMI
#10
My PC just lagged there and I managed to click expire by accident. Can someone unexpire please? :o

Hiroki
Ah I got that term off another site, so is composite those red/white/yellow wires?

Composite is yellow. The red/white are just audio that are often used with composite. This thing has component, red/green/blue, so will do 1080i or 720p if your TV supports it.

I don't know where my first reply has disappeared too.

Here is a video that shows the composite and component cables for the WD box (@1m24s):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7xyKgE5zQc

On this page you can see the rear of the zyxel - which is looking like the better option (although apparently it over rides directory listings when sorting music and video, so all video is in one directory and music sorted by album/artist)
#13
its £38 so it is expired

on today only page http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx under supersavers.

If a deal needs unexpiring please use the report function http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif otherwise it relies on one of us stumbling upon a request
Although, this is expired

Go to this link for their 'Today Only' deals:
http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

Scroll down to the 'Super Savers' where you will see the following:

Going direct to the product (as the 'go to deal' link does) shows the full price.
#17
tempted to buy this due to rmvb and cheap price but things that bother me are lack of 1080p hdmi and mkv support.
#18
I've updated the main link to the product buy link on the Scan Today Only page to avoid confusion.
#19
Hmm only this one in the WD range plays Rmvb. Thats kinda weird, normally you get more features along with oldler models.

Anyone with a WD TV full versions ever tried rmvb files?

Not a fan of re-encoding files :p

bit like the guy above me, I need a media streamer which plays a wide range of files (inc HD) and also has ethernet connection, as I have all my media on a NAS

anyone got any good suggestions with a low price tag?!

thanks :-)
#23
a great price but please bear in mind this is far from the best media player in the world.
for those on a budget look at the playon hd mini
for those wanting to spend a little bit more the mede8er and A200 will see you fine

Not had any problems at all with mine. Maybe you have an iffy one.

I've got an old TV with just a scart connection but I have the adapter from my xbox classic.

Will this work for me? My XBMC setup is starting to die.

if you don't have composite/component directly you can use a scart block :) (use the composite cables obviously)

Hi ... I have an old but good CRT TV with a SCART connector. I'd like to back up my DVD collection to one storage device and possibly then connect to this WD mini player to use in hotel TV's etc. What's the best way of doing this and then using this device without loosing quality? I've tried the Magic DVD copier, but the quality is poor (due to compression).

Many thanks for a few leads!

Scan is meh, prefer to order from Amazon! thanks for the heads up anyway. My sister and her husband should get into watching stuff off memory sticks.

Surely if the player played MKV it wouldn't be this price?????:?
