Not really anything drastic to read right here but it's something that is not on the menu and it's a very handy side order at 60p!!

Just happened to have banter with the waitress who was trying to get me to buy a side of chips but for £1.99 it's not really that many chips. So after saying I didn't have the money, she said she'd do a 'small chips' which is 60p. I paid for it and expected a tiny bowl with about 5 chips in it! But to be fair its a good sized bowl and for 60p its a bargain!! Can be bought on it's own too.

I tried it in Carmarthen Wetherspoons today and she was relucatant at first but I was adament that small chips exists so she put it through at 60p. And my friend was super brave in the Bank Statement in Swansea and (as if the food is not cheap enough) ordered a 'small chips with beans' which was only £1.29. So they put that on a big plate so he got a fair deal there!

Not ground breaking but it's not on the menu and I'm sure there are enough people who don't know so don't go voting cold just because you already knew! :)

With free ketchup too (and other sauces) you're onto a winner!

Made from 100% real cardboard.
#10
Thanks for the info on the chips. I'll try tomorrow!

It's true. I used to work at a weatherspoons and you can add chips to any meal for 60p. In fact, you can also add beans, peas, bacon, cheese and more (I can't remember them all off the top of my head) all for 60p each (or at least you could when I used to work there).
#12
I <3 Spoons, I've been going to my local since I was 13 and got I.Ded by the original manager on my 18th, didn't kick me out for fear of bankruptsy though :p. Good timingalso, smoking ban the week I realised I was preggers! So many fond memories...'bored', 'fag?' 'and tea', 'fag and tea at wethers?'. They also do the cheapest breakfast's that won't give you a dodgy stomach and do quorn, what happened to the pancakes though?!?! Chips good though (
#13
Good shout. Everyone let us know if you get this!

Or if you work there like my mate - last time we went in he just pressed 'add burger' 4 times, got it half price and ended up with 4 slabs of meat (for £2) cos they were out of cobs!

had an excellent mixed grill in Newquay spoons last week £6.99 but lovely

have had the cheap chips b4 as a nice extra with their curry deals
#16
I use my luncheon vouchers from the pinecone research thingy there
so almost eat for free lol
#17
Has this price been o.k'd with Gordon ?

Please for god's sake make sure you eat ALL the chips, remember to recycle kids.

Don't like Weatherspoons; always full of scum, riff-raff and unsavoury characters.

That is real life unfortunately, they just come out all at once at daybreak to drink cheap beer on their own.... :prop:

Food is cheap and nice though, I have found to go in early in the evening to escape the majority of the losers. Have a couple of beers and a cheap dinner then escape to the local to finish the evening off.... I might try some 60p chips on my breakfast this saturday and call it brunch ... how posh would that be in there!! I bet they will all stare at me and point....
#20
Nice one mush! (That's Swansea talk, not a reference to the food!) ;-)
#21
Can those who worked at spoons let me know just one simple thing...
How much of the food is jusy dinged in the microwave. Seriously, even the chips have tasted like soggy microchips from time to time. God only knows what they do with the steaks (anyone heard of well done, nope didn't think so). You can even order a BBQ chicken and bacon panini and get no BBQ sauce at all.

The worst thing is i still keep getting food while i'm there coz its just too convenient.
#22
Dawn1e mush is gypsy talk for do you have any scwapp meccel or gas boccles to get rid of mush. i.e mush......(my friend).

Or whilst robbing them from the back whilst the waitress is being distacted in Wetherspoons when some sad b*****d is asking for a side order of chips for 60 pence.

the food is the worst iv ever had but i will say it is cheep so u get what u pay for and thanks i didnt know about the 60p small size
#24
yeah some people love the food, some people think its naff. but for me its cheap and you get what you pay for. Two meals for £7.19 each is what me and the boys do. Can't complain there. Is the food heated up in the microwave? Do the majority of people just heat their food up in the oven? So be it, want it cooked by chefs...go pay the extra! Enjoy the 60p chips though...

Some people can cook = think Wetherspoons food is naff
Some people can't = love wetherspoons food!

That's what it comes down to. If you can cook, you'll always come away thinking - I could have done better myself, and for cheaper!

Exactly my thoughts. You don't go to wetherspoons for a gourmet meal.

The chips are cooked in batch like most places, so you may get some that have been sitting there for 10 minutes.

Like most places, If the meat is not specified to be beef then it probably isn't. Most Steaks in Wetherspoons are .Zebu meat.

As for the 60p chips, this is on the menu as a side dish for bageattues and wraps etc, so when ordering just asking for the 'side portion of chips' and not the 'Bowl' which cost 1.99.
#27
Yeah was going to say watch out for the Zebu steaks.
#28
These look decent British chip - none of those skinny cr*p things offered by McDonalds, KFC, or Burger King that proportionally soak up far more fat and so are far less healthy.

*Feels sick remembering what Wetherspoons food actually tastes like* :-&

I cant believe the amount of people with praise for the food! Its average at best. Not surprising considering its microwaved!

Chips for 60p is no bad though!
#31
It tickles me that people could actually be this sad.

You can praise average food that is cheap. what's cheaper? Going for fast food? No thanks! Wetherspoons is basically you paying for the luxury of not eating in your dining room day in day out :p They use the same food as you probably buy in Tesco! Although there are some pricey items on the menu, but two meals for £7 in my local, what can I get to better that! Love how people seem to expect a chef around the back cooking everyones food when you're paying a fiver for most dishes. pleeeease.
#33
Well look at Jamie Oliver feeds a WHOLE family for a fiver thats at Sainsbury's. I heard someone eating a bag of credit crunch flavoured crisp!
#34
I hope there's some salt on those crisps too, yum.

All deep fried, grilled or microwaved. Steaks can "allegedly" be deep fried too for a laugh :D You're paying peanuts they're not really that arsed about making sure it's rare or medium are they?

You can worry too much about what you eat but odds are unless you're paying hundreds for a meal they're all up to the same practices.

Request nacho sharer with dips in bowls, not over food. You should be billed a pound.

Not all food is dinged in a microwave ! steaks are cooked fresh as are all burgers, chips, fish etc!
As regarding how a steak is cooked its not always possible to satisfy everyone,we try our best.
some of our food eg pastas, etc are micowave as are beans and even vegtables.

Well, I think it's a fair price for a meal there, not a nosebleed punch in the face as I've had in many far more pricey places!
..for instance the sauces they use on the curry day's is from a firm that sells for £2.99+ per pot in waitrose, it's pukka, my rice has always been very fresh, a lovely moist naan etc!
...cheap beer, A happy five year old & a good relaxing sit down whilst shopping or visiting another town/ city.
Never had a problem in one (not ever drunk late though) Happy polite staff, & even drunks have been apologetic when I've had to chip in!
Love it, entertaining afternoons every time, & nice to see a full age range in the bar! ..good beers, coffees etc, kids meals (PLEASE bring back banana split)! ..my thanks to those who serve me so darn well there.
