The acid question, as always (and as with Woolworths) is 'would you set up a business like this in 2008/9?'.

The answer with Woolworths was no, and it's the same with Smiths, BHS, Dixons/Currys and so many other 'old style' retailers.

A little unknown fact about WHSmiths. They provide/Distribute magazine and newspapers to over 50% of the newsagents in the UK. I don't just mean your super small family run retailers either. CO-OP and SPAR are both customers. Somehow I do not think WHSmith has a money problem.

Good discounts but judging by the **** they are selling off i'm not suprised ;)

my experience of WHS sales is that you get an email days later says "Sorry, unfortuantley we are not able....."

Woolworth also owned a large distribution company supplying CDs and DVDs to major retailers. It didn't stop them going bust.

not really much there at that much off, the indiviual deals will get posted if there is anything of note, rendering this thread pretty much void

i was once given WH smith vouchers.
couldn't find anything i wanted even for "free". :-)

There is a very nice Sheaffer fountain pen for 1/2 price (£24.47) but other than this I can't see much else that's worth the money, even if its 75% off.

Choices used to supply DVDs/Videos to thousands upon thousands of local stores for rental. But if no wants to rent at the store anymore, it doesn't matter!
