Ugly? Some people just want a phone that works? isnt that why we have them to make calls not to use as decorative ornaments in our homes? £14.99 Not Cheap? Whatever! :whistling:

Unfortunately ALL brands I have tried, at all prices are rubbish when compared to Panasonic, so my advice is don't buy anything else, even if it is pennies. It is rare, but with some products cheap doesn't work :-(

We had panasonic in the past and they didnt last ..you dont always get what you pay for .... but for under £15 this phone has to be worth a shot....... and if it did go wrong :?

ARGOS are excellent with returns

Why o why didnt wharfedale stick to just making speakers? In their day they was good (80's) and a great brand, now they do poor quality (in my opinion anyway) items that have cheapemed the ID as a quality brand. Everything ive bought made by wharfdale has ended up returned over the last couple of years due to being plagued with faults.

Am I imagining things or were they bought out (or just the name bought up after they stopped trading) by Goodmans, like a lot of other old "household name" companies like Decca?
Unfortunately it has fooled older people thinking they were of the same quality as the originals, and not the skip-fodder they are now :-(

Correct, and it isn't just " older people " that they have fooled by the look of things.;-)

Because for a small price more you can have a better phone and 3 of them - Answering Machines on phones themselves are redundant when you can get it as part of your package for free.... Less to go wrong then :)

Answering machines are still VERY much more use than 1571 and similar features, even the more sophisticated paid-for versions. For one you see instantly if you have messages, at a glance; and most significantly is the ability to "screen" calls and choose whether or not to answer them (even if you have caller ID, not all calls show the ID!) - not something I do all the time, but there are times it is VERY useful. You can also use it to answer all calls for you, without the option to leave a message; yet still take calls that you want to answer - you won't even know these have happened on an operator based answering setup!

TBH I've never found an answering machine that is clear enough to understand, to one degree or another all messages seem muffled.
