These 9.1 are half the price of the Diamond 10.1 and Richer Sounds are selling the 9.0s for half the price SuperFi are selling the 9.1s http://www.richersounds.com/product/bookshelf-speakers/wharfedale/diamond-9.0/whar-9.0-rose

They are also selling the 9.1s for 125 quid http://www.richersounds.com/product/bookshelf-speakers/wharfedale/diamond-9.1/whar-9.1-rose Get them to price beat SuperFi and you are onto a winner. Only problem is they are only available in Rosewood (depending on taste of course)

What the difference is between the sound of the 9.0s, 9.1s and 10.1s though I haven't got a clue!

Superfi have all the colors. I meant to post about the Richersounds price match but like you say RS only have one color.

I've ordered two sets of 9.1s in Rosewood to matching my flooring.

Superfi do free delivery where as RS charge per box for delivery.

Audio-T had them for £95 a month ago.

Super!....yeah as I said RS price beat, but only have that one colour, this is a great deal for 9.1s, not sure what the difference is over the older 9.0s, if anyone likes rosewood 2 pairs of those for front and rears for just a ton is a fantastic deal.
#4
The 9.0 are not older speakers compared to the 9.1, they are just smaller speakers.

I was going to get the 10.1 but for double the price couldn't justify the cost.

How come my deal is not on the front page?
#5
Cracking speakers, I own a pair. I paid exactly this price for a pair of Walnut 9.1s in January though, so average price given that the Tens are out. The 9.1's are what, 5 years old now? Given that Superfi are good, the price is ok.

The less popular colours have been at this price for quite a while - they look hideous in the flesh, so be careful which one you choose - very Ikea, and the silver... eurgh. The walnuts look very convincing though (it's a veneer, they're not real wood finish, although there are Ltd Edition 9.1's in real walnut veneer for more £££).

The 9.0's are half the 9.1's is because they're not as good, although great and def worth £50 - that's the deal out of the 3.
#6
Cheapest price on the internet as of to-day.

Would you say the rosewood color looks hideous? I've just ordered those, I normally go for black speakers but fancied a change to match my flooring.

I'm waiting for the 9.CS centre to be reduced although you can not get this in rosewood. I can always spray paint them later which I did to my silver subwoofer. (Now black with gold port)

The 10.1 are now twin rear ported, so a slightly different set up, whatever your needs. Same curved casing though, and with fronts on will look almost identical. There must of course be much improved acoustical differences - there has to be, they were delayed for so long!

The 9.0s were single front ported btw, the 9.1s twin front ported.

I seem to remember the rosewood being my 2nd favourite non-black colour, although I was looking at them pre-Christmas to decide so its a while ago. Cherry was the least popular according to the guy at RS, and I think he said they didn't bother stocking the silver! The black is a pretty standard finish and hard to go wrong with, but a lot better than most. (all said IMHO).

I bet they look great when matched to your flooring. Context and all that!

I didn't got for the 10.1 because they are front ported and want to place them close to the wall for the rears.

I already have Wharfedale speakers but they are getting on a bit.

Valdus 100 for rears.
Valdus centre.
Valdus 400 smaller floor standers on stands. May keep these for fronts as they do sound good. I might even use one of the 9.1 for a temp. centre.

Hopefully there should be a big difference. I am not too bothered about bass as I have a sub for that which I'm also changing at a later date.

It was the 9.1 or Mordaunt Short 902i/905i. They are both probably as good but for £100 it swayed me. If I had gone for the MS I'd have to change the fronts and centre for tonal matching.

I've got too many speakers. 16. I even have car speakers in my bathroom.

9.1s are great speaker, nice punchy sound to them

Superfi can have some corking speaker offers, bearing in mind I bought mine a few years ago (but still very very happy) I bought a pair of Mission V61s RRP was 300 quid, got them for 149.

http://www.superfi.co.uk/images/main/v61_1098x650.jpg

About a year later, visited the same Superfi store and got a clearance deal on a Wharfedale Diamond 8 Centre for just 50 quid

http://new.superfi.co.uk/images/8-plus-centre-550.jpg

The Beech colouring is different between the fronts and the centre, but with the gunmetal front of the Wharfedale and the fact the sides are not seen underneath the tv in an Ikea cabinet I am more than happy.

Definitely worth checking once in a while for speaker clearance deals in Superfi, especially if you are prepared to mix and match.
#12
Was just looking at this on their site! I have 9.1 fronts and a centre but was checking the latest price for rears with the 10.1s now out. Unfortunately though the rest of my speakers are beech and Superfi don't have them :-(

Highly recommended speakers, especially at this price.

I've spent over £2000 on Superfi on various kit and orders and every time is a perfect experience

I like doing things on the cheap. I have a rosewood/mahogany floor. I put down six sheets of plywood on top of the floorboards. Nailed it down then using a marker pen, drew in rectangles to give the impression of laminate flooring.

Next I stained it with 3 coats of rosewood/mahogany and then 3 coats of heavy duty satin varnish.

No one knows until I tell them.

Erm, the 10.1 is rear ported.
#15
My mistake - that's why I got the 9.1 because they are front ported.

I need speakers in my kitchen now and also the shed.

So are wharfedale speakers different to their other products ? the name seems to be used for a lot of budget devices of varying quality..

Yes most definitely, like most british manufacturers, Wharfedale are now part of the International Audio Group (IAG) who aquired Wharfedale, Quad Electroacoustics, Mission, Tag McLaren, Audiolab and Castle Acoustics

Design is still done in the UK by these manufacturers, outsourcing the build to China

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Audio_Group

Unfortunately on top of this the IAG also sold the name Wharfedale for branding to Argos goods, so Argos can brand their far eastern electronics devices with the Wharfedale tag, the speakers though are still designed in the UK as good quality as ever, just sadly the IAG has confused issues by allowing the licensing of the name to far eastern electronic Argos goods. Wharfedale speakers still are designed by the original firm. But not the cheap computer speakers, headphones etc etc you see for sale in Argos!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wharfedale_(company)
#19
The Wharfedale gear you see at Argos is nothing to do with the Speaker company.

Wharfedale like Quad, Mission and Castle Acoustics are owned by a Chinese company (IAG).

They are designed in the UK but manufactured in China. Argos have just bought the label from them making people think anything to do with Wharfedale is cheap now.

It's because Wharfedale are a well known British speaker brand and gives the impression that they must also make quality tvs etc. when in fact they don't.

I have the Anniversary Edition of these speakers and bought them from SuperFi, I couldn't be happier with both the speakers and the service. :)

Me Too!

You also like doing things cheap or you want to see a picture of my floor?

Ok. I'll post one up a bit later. Just got to go down the shop for some cough medicine - had the flu - called the help line and they told me that I had swine flu - 3hrs of training can tell you that! I never had the purple spots and I could touch my chin on my chest.

Still using a pair of Diamond 4's.

Like to see pics of the floor, although also like to be savvy, sounds a really neat idea. Sorry to hear you have flu mate, although to be honest they are misdiagnosing swine flu, chances are you might just have standard flu...or if you are able to go to the shop then man flu :-D

Photos took, will resize, upload then post.

The bug has nearly gone now so well enough to venture out. They told me to take Tamiflu but I didn't as I heard some bad stories about the side effects including nightmarish hallucinations. One person went out for a walk in the middle of the night and didn't even know he was doing it.

Cheers, I was hoping that the speakers were still good, but its a shame that the name is tainted by the other stuff produced by the group.
#27
Been selling these speakers for years! A lot of speaker £100.

New 10.1 versions are out now, but have a SRP of £199.95. So It's double the money.
#28
I brought my 9.1's from rischer sounds for £125 and have been SOOOOO pleased with them. This is a cracking deal. I'm toying with getting them for my PC to replace my Morddaunt-short speakers that are 20+ years old now.
#29
I have a pair of Wharfedale Active Diamonds which I bought when dinosaurs still reigned supreme.
They are great little speakers and they're still going strong and sounding good.

Voted hot.

How do they compare to the Tannoy F1's?

Great, ordered some to see how they hold up comapred to my ancient Modus 4's

Really does look like proper flooring, nice job.....liking the lava lamps....I am Mathmos Lava lamp mad. Now you just need a bit of cable tidying to finish off the room ;-)
#34
Cheers. I hate cables. The photo doesn't reveal all.

I have 4 plug strips. AV, PC, projector, gadgets, mood lighting etc.
No TV as it went wrong hence the LCD wall mount.

I watch TV through the monitor or projector. Will get a TV later.

Fortunately for me in the lounge the Ikea unit I am using I have against a wall with cut outs in the back board for cables to go through so the mess isn't seen, all the cables are shoved behind that.

Saw a good thing that can be bought from Ikea for tidying stuff up, these pics might be an inspiration, and what I am deciding doing in my computer/video gaming room.

This stuff is great hosing for bunching cabling together http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20097954

And this is great for cable management runs keeping things well off the floor. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50035115

I was wondering the same thing. I'm quite happy with my Tannoy F1's though (guessing you bought them after the thread a few months back with several people raving about what an amazing bargain they were - I don't know enough about speakers to make an informed decision lol).
I'm looking for a decent sub unit now, think I'll go browse SuperFi.
#37
My wife would shoot me if my cables looked like that!:-D

I have just got hold of a pair of 9.1s to act as fronts in my 5.1 system (£100 from RS), they work alongside the 9.0s for rears, the 9.CS centre and the SW250 subwoofer.......

I got Rosewood from Richer Sounds for pricematching with a cherry set on a website that is now sold out, so always worth a haggle depending on the store! The Rosewood looks fine I think....not as good as real wood but I like it....and very wife friendly!:)

These are a steal at this price and well worth a purchase if you are thinking about them. They sound crisp and clear (I have them through a Sony 820 receiver) and when set to LARGE in the amp settings, do a very good job of bass. They are as good, if not better, than my old Mission floorstanders that I just sold to fund the new 5.1 system!

The 9.0s are great as rears too, but I would not necesarily go for them just for stereo, unless it was for a small budget system.

I have not heard the Tannoys mentioned above but were on my original list because of the great price. However, from doing a lot of reading, I don't think they would have the same impact as the wharfedales, so think I would still go for the 9 series over the tannoys.....but the best thing to do is audition them if you are in any doubt.

Absolute bargain - go on you won't be disappointed! And I don't work for Wharfedale by the way :p

He he yes. I have a pair of F4's up front with a FC Centre and a pair of F1's running as surrounds (complete overkill for surrounds i know )

Just intrigued as to how the Wharfedale's compared to the F1's out of nothing but nosiness really

How do they compare to the Tannoy F1's?

I too am wondering the same thing. When researching speakers about a year ago, I think the reviews I found reckoned the 9.1's were a bit better but I couldn't find any at a decent price. Amazon were doing the F1 Customs for £79 so I jumped at those.
Tempted to buy these, but don't really need them...:-D
#40
The Tannoy F1 is in a similar class, but the 9.1 is a better performer if you're picky. The F1 has been priced a lot less than this 9.1 price for quite a while, which probably speaks a lot about it's comparison to the 9.1.
