Jump to unread Post a CommentA word of warning though. They often come with mould on the tweeters. Looks like a batch might have been stored badly at some point, because at the time I purchased I read about the issue in more than one forum on the net, it was quite well known. I got mine from Superfi and they were mouldy. There is no suggestion it is Superfi's fault, I think other suppliers have also had the issue, and Superfi replaced mine very quickly with no quibbles for a clean pair.
So yes a great pair of speakers, won't be bettered for less than £100 that's for sure. Worth a punt, but have a look under the grille as soon as you get them.
Your picture doesn't do them justice as they are very good looking speakers with an excellent sound to match.
I think anyone after a good set of speakers at under a hundred quid must short list these as they will probably blow all others away at the price point. They had excellent reviews when they originally came out at £200 so this is a no brainier. And good speakers never go out of fashion.

Incidentally these 902i's you are recommending... where are you suggesting folk buy them from? And at what price? Just asking, like.

I'd like to know what you're basing this on?
The Wharfedales have a better frequency response, a better sensitivity rating (refering to the output in dB of a speaker when a 2.83 volt input is applied to it), fantastic reviews, and are made by a company that has a solid reputation for producing fantastic speakers. Not to mention the Mordaunt ones you mentioned look cheap and pretty nasty.
The OP described them as "one of the best, if not the best", which is entirely true.
How can you argue with that?
To be honest, the M-Audio AV40 MK1 is better than most budget hi-fi speakers that I've heard, as long as you're not heavily into bass.
Good price for a good-looking and ok-sounding speaker so have some heat.

Agreed..I always buy my hi-fi kit 2nd hand ....... Acoustic energy AE109's £50 an old Pioneer PD-S505 Precision £60 and an old skool Pioneer A400 £70 .. quality music ..cheap as chips :D Diamonds always seem to get good reviews..never heard them tbh.

There are always arguments about the benefits of expensive v cheap cables ..I've never noticed any real difference tbh maybe my hearing aint that good and i've never spent more than about 50 quid on cables..links below just for info..
