nothing like it. Wharfedale used to make excellent speakers, think they went bankrupt years ago and now they mainly make cheap tat. :-(

Wharfedale Wireless Works was founded in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs, and became one of Britain's leading manufacturers of audiophile equipment, particularly loudspeakers. In addition to winning awards by groups such as the Bradford Radio Society, mass public testing at Carnegie Hall proved Wharfedale speakers indistinguishable from live music. Innovations introduced by Wharfedale under Briggs included such basics as the two-way loudspeaker and the ceramic magnet. In the 1950s and 1960s, Wharfedale became famous for its technique of eliminating cabinet resonances by using a double cabinet, with the space between the inner and outer shells filled with sand. Purchasers of the loudspeaker systems would receive the appropriate quantity of sand which had been shipped from Wharfedale in England. Briggs sold the company in 1958, and it has been through several owners since then.
The name has been licensed to Argos for the manufacture of electronics products, who use it on digital terrestrial television adapters, headphones, television sets and other products.
and hows the quality on these?

Just reserved the last one in Oldbury West Midlands

Great Find
WHAFERDALE is a class make. i picked mine up yesturday and the sound is absolutely good, oh and whaferdale quality is not on bose level but still can give it a competition
and hows the quality on these?

I thought Bush/Alba bought the Wharfedale name when they went bust. It was at that time they started producing sub standard tat.

The original Wharfdale stuff was well regarded.
will a 16gb i-pod touch work with this?
Managed to reseve one in Edinburgh. All places that had them in stock only had one left, hope its not a wild good chase :)

I had a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 2 or 3's with changeable front covers, snazzy red! They were really good speakers then, shame they are defunct now.

Ah just noticed they run on batteries, AND include an AC adapter....good find!
Hi there,

does anyone know if this is compatible with the iPhone 3G and whether it will charge it too?
