The Wharfedale LPDV832HDMI is a bargain Freeview set-top-box. With HDMI output (complete with upscaled, HD pictures up to a resolution of 1080i) RGB output, twin scart, full 7-day EPG and full Digital TeleText support, you cannot go wrong at this price. Perfect for a second room or as a brilliant way to get ready for the digital switchover!

This new "Low Power" version consumes less electricity and is therefore more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Old model, second-hand - a friend has one, and he only paid £29.99 NEW at Argos, must have been well over a year ago now as they don't seem to have them now.

Are there any more recent models ? I've googled and the only upscaling freeview boxes more recent than this that I can find have either a HDD or DVD and cost much more.

Actually that's a good point.

Everyone moving into PVRs?

I bought a Goodmans version a while back. To be honest couldn't really notice much difference in picture quality from standard freeview.

After a bit of searching, I am now of the opinion that if your tv is HD ready and has an integrated tuner, then your integrated tuner should upscale the image to suit the display. So buying an upscaling freeview box would be pointless if you have a built in freeview tuner.
That's the theory, but if that's the case, why isn't the picture I get when viewing my tv through the integrated tuner better than the picture that I get from my non upscaling PVR ?
