If you are considering the Richer Sounds Onkyo 505 deal then I would seriously recommend considering partnering it with a decent set of 5.1 Speakers. The Q Acoustics 1010 5.1 System won lots of awards at £500 about 18 months ago. most retailers are still rating it at this price or a slight discount to £450. Superfi have the set for £299 delivered, bargain.

If you listen to a lot of music and have the space I would seriously recommend the £30 upgrade to floorstanding front speakers left and right. Either way though this is a really good set of speakers for the cash. Many reputable retailers such as AVSales and Creative Audio have been pushing packages of these speakers and the lower Onkyo amps for a while as they are a great match, especially now they can be matched for £500.

Probably because it is £300 for a pair of speakers when most people here would expect to walk into curries/comet/ etc and pick up a 5.1 surround system with integrated DVD player/ Amp for that!! (I'm with the Audiophiles by the way...separates all the way....just can't afford to be one!)

Quite a few seem to mistake good value for cheap tat round these parts *cough* Dell deals *cough* :whistling:. Which is a shame as some genuinely hot deals get lost because good value on quality products doesn't often get recognised.

It's a good price for this particular set of speakers, but you've got to ask if you'd really notice a huge difference in quality from a cheaper set up. [runs for cover!!]
I bought a sony package including receiver, sub and 5 speakers for £150 a couple of months ago, and am really pleased with it.
This speaker set is for a bit of a niche market, I feel.

Just applied some heat for you.

I have a £500+ seperate speaker system (not including amp or cables), and no matter who comes around they are always blown away and just can't comprehend how awesome it sounds.

You get what you pay for in this world, if people want a £30 set of speakers then go for it.
However if you want something to last you a lifetime then dig deep you won't regret it.
At £299 you can't really go wrong.

Totally agree, most people on here have difficulty reading and spelling too so I hope the deal finder is not too upset.

At the end of the day near half price for a top quality item is good value, especially as it cannot be bought elsewhere for anywhere near that. Would the same apply if there was a listing for a half price Porsche

As people were excited to save £70 on a £250 Onkyo Amp I thought there may be members wanting to match it with something decent. This is my first bargain listed here, think I will stick to listing them at places were the right people are looking

I will also be making my bookmark the deal thread rather than the homepage from now on 8-)

Thanks to those adding heat.

Oh and yes this will knock the socks off a £150 Sony 5.1 set :whistling:

And apologies for all the stupid faces, just in a cheerful mood today for some reason.

It might be niche, but that doesn't stop it being a good deal. I don't vote deals on nappies cold because my kids are grown up. Heat and rep added. Not having a go at you skinrush, because you've agreed it's a good price, and that is the whole point of this site, surely? It's not about finding cheap stuff only: it's about finding deals that represent good or great value for money, when compared to their normal price, or when compared to other brands or items with the same specification.

Great price, nice to see the temperature turn around on this.

A good find Sibeer. A true bargain, a quality product at a great price, rather than something which is just cheap.

In what way ? Loudness?, depth of sound?, crispness perhaps?

Unless you live in a detached house within its own acre of land, you can't turn the volume up to a level that would justify buying this.
For sure, the speaker set you've posted and the Onkyo receiver you mentioned will be a better system than a £150 sony system, and If you're the sort of person that listens to a variety of different systems in order to compare, then you may notice a difference between them.

Most people aren't quite that analytic though.

Personally I'm happy to have saved the £330 difference between an Onkyo/Q Acoustics setup and the Sony.

If I felt that the Sony's sound was poor, I'd have taken it back after listening to it.

I'm not saying that this is a bad deal either, and I voted it hot.

Just offering reasons why people might not be voting it hot. ie, its for audio enthusiasts who have lots of spare cash and live on farm/remote island, and can enjoy turning the volume above 1 on the dial. :whistling:

Good price, voted hot, nice build quality and (apparently) sound but they're bloody ugly speakers though or is it just me?
#19
Voted hot...dont need to buy as already have some ace speakers...but trust me everyone, even on a basic system, these speaked with half decent speaker cable will blow you current system away....

I tend to use the AV Forum bargain threads to mention this kind of deal. There people are made up if you save them 2/5 of the cost of a quality item, even if it does cost them well over a grand still :santa:

Oh and skinrush I wasn't trying to belittle your system. I agree completely that Hi-Fi suffers from diminishing returns just like anything else, I just think that people who are happy spending £200 on an amp are wasting their money if they don't connect a decent set of speakers.

As for benefits of spending more, I am confident that this system would offer a far more balanced sound. This would be obvious to anyone listening to both. Cheaper systems tend to have a weaker midrange and sound harsher at the extreme high and low frequencies. I class the effect as a fullness to the sound. To my mind one of the main benefits of a full sound is that you can better here the effects, dialogue and separation of the sound at lower volumes. At higher volumes the benefit is that the system won't sound as harsh on your ears so is more enjoyable.
#21
Not sure if it's just me but I found when I used to play music through cheaper speakers at a good volume that if you stepped outside the front door you would still hear it as it seemed to bleed out all over.

Now have a separates system coupled with some Tannoys which have served me well for 13 years and at the same volume it's rich and vibrant with good bass but step outside the front door and you can hardly hear it, step back inside and you are surrounded with that warm rich sound again.

Sounds silly I know but I was a bit paranoid about upsetting the neighbours with loud music ( I live in a link detached house) hence the front door test.

It must be to do with harmonics and frequencies that higher quality equipment is able to produce I guess.:whistling:

Try AVforums. It's a very large forum with some very knowledgeable people.

Wow what a price, this is great value for money. At £500 this package was hard beaten, I should know as I sell them too! but I won't tell you who I work for I'm afraid. These will partner the Onkyo TX-SR505 beautifully, good find

Heat added.

Thanks for turning this round from the -20 rating it got to begin with people :)

That is the typical view of someone who has never listened to a proper set of speakers. It has nothing to do with how loud they go. It is the quality of the sound, the details, the projection etc.

The speakers aren't my cup of tea looks wise and I have some B&W's, but they are cracking for the price.

I was looking for these just yesterday funny they should pop up at this price today :)

Oh ok...'it has nothing to do with how loud they go' I think it probably does a bit!
...and I'm sure your neighbours (if you have any) appreciate the quality, details and projection etc.

It wasn't even as though I was jumping on this deal anyway. Like I said, I voted it hot. If I felt that I was in the market for another set of speakers, and could justify the price, I'd consider this deal.

ummmmmm!

voted hot because, although i wouldn't buy them (too expensive for me), 40% off anything is a great deal!!!

If you do the £30 upgrade on their site you will still have a nice pair of floorstanders in your system :whistling:

It maybe worth mentioning the FULL package title:
Q ACOUSTICS 1010 5.1 SPEAKER PACKAGE (CHERRY)

I suspect Cherry was a popular finish quite some time ago - certainly came well before my own 'beech' phase, which is itself being consigned to history.

And yes I KNOW the choice of finish shouldn't affect their auditory effect, but it sure affects the appearance in a home.
#36
voted hot. I envy the people that are going for both deals posted today...........but, if this is your first surround sound setup, please bear in mind that you'll need decent speaker cable (including a separate one for the subwoofer ) - it won't come cheap. start looking now for the deals
#37
If I didn't already own a set of Kef 2005.2's then this would be hard to resist. The floorstanding fronts would be a very sensible/bargain upgrade for 2 channel CD listening too.

I miss having full size front speakers, and the days of regularly buying audio equipment - Now I have to spend the money on water bills instead :-(
#38
I got a pair of the Anniversary edition Wharfedale 9.1's from superfi a while back and didn't have a single problem with their service, they were delivered very fast. Great deal for the Onkyo's too.
#39
now thats a bargain - i remember looking at these last year when they were just over £500 - ended up going with the Acoustic Energy aego t system for £500.

again i fail to see why people who know absolutely nothing about quality equipment bother giving an opinion when it does not add anything to the post.

these will sound frankly worlds apart from a basic all in one system no matter what the level you put them at.

without taking any sides - this place is turning into AV Forums :)
