And I think you misunderstand me. I'm pointing out you're very much a part of that "modern life" so laugh at yourself as well.

Just to be sure lets compare:

Gullible:

Buying an expensive bag that cost a fraction of its price to make.
Buying a couple of hundred grams of moulded plastic that cost a fraction of its price to make.

Don't see much difference there. Ofcourse neither company is making the rest as profit. There's raw material cost, import taxes, VAT, freight, Retailers margin, marketing, cost of warehousing, cost of offices and other business premises, taxes/rates on those premises, staff in their Western supply/delivery/customer services/etc, taxes on those staff (NI for example)........... 10% profit would generally considered huge for consumer products when all is said and done (and then theres corporation tax on that) :/

Morality:

Lets look at this from the perspective of the people working in the sweat shops. They're obviously doing it as they have no alternative. Lego may largely manufacture in the West (or Mexico for US market), but how does that help the people working in sweatshops in the third world?

From our Western perspective, the sweatshops are abhorrent. But unless we're providing a decent alternative, for many of these people they are "lucky" to get a job in a sweatshop. As the alternative is often dire by comparison.

So some gullible privileged woman buys an expensive bag made in a sweatshop. Some gullible privileged westerner instead buys expensive toy bricks manufactured in the west. Ether way both are servicing their desires for frivolous consumerism while swathes of the planet live hand to mouth. I can't see how anyone that spends money on expensive toy bricks could take the moral high ground with regard to the plight of the third world. Perhaps I'm wrong, if you're ever in the region pop into a factory and tell them how you're better then the woman that buys the bags they produce, because you spend the equivalent of months of their wages on plastic toy bricks :/

Moreover, how are the staff of Lego's supply chains treated? Trace that plastic back to its raw materials and consider the treatment of the people at the beginning of that supply chain. Or the heavy metals and other materials used in their plant machinery.

Or what about when you toss those bricks in the trash. Are you so sure they don't end up on some third world trash tip where children sift through for anything that can go back into the supply chains for consumerism? Where do you buy your clothes from? Your shoes. The computer you use to access this forum?

Laugh all you want, but your laughing at yourself also. Or to put it another way, insinuate people stink when you are swimming in the same filth (as am I and the rest of us privileged, lucky people in the west)!

Rich privileged woman designs handbags to sell at inflated prices to other rich privileged women, normal women fooled into believing these are normal prices and buy them to be more like rich privileged women.
Rich woman become even richer and more privileged, laugh at gullibility of normal women.
Normal women left with bit of leather worth £10 made in a sweatshop in China where people make barely enough money to live.
Modern life eh? :p
Rich privileged westerners buying expensive plastic toy bricks. While people around the world starve or have to work in sweat shops to give their families a hand to mouth existence. Then have the hypocrisy to get on their high horse and attack the consumerism of others :/
Oh you misunderstand me, I'm not attacking anyone for whatever they buy, just laughing at modern life.

Besides it's not hypocrisy at all, the Lego company (I assume you've been delving into my deals) treat all their employees very well, it's far from a sweat shop in China.

I understand the sentiments. But I think it might be wasted on here ,voted up for effort 8)
Cold... I have a mont blanc pen and brought it to look like a flash git, not for the quality the ink. Seriously waste of time and money.
Interesting. Thanks OP :)
Awful lot of hassle just to "feel smug as knowing you've got a £200+ pen for under £10"

My 10p Bic biro does as good a job - and I feel smug knowing I can get 120 of them for the price of your 3 refills.
I'd be LOLing out loud too if I understood what the hell this is about! So the ink is worth £200 or is it the refill, sounds a lot of **sing about for a pen, specially as we are typers and swipers on here mostly....
