I thought netbooks were meant to be cheap????? you can get a decent laptop for a few quid more! Look for a Asus EEE PC for a cheap netbook 701 series 4gb £150 (ebuyer), although the battery sucks!

This is still a good deal for a Netbook - other ones that match this technical specification would cost forty pounds plus extra. I'm off to get one and you might want to check out an earlier thread where another Acer Aspire One Netbook (same technical specifications but different colour) had quite a lot popularity for it.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

This IS cheap. Equivalent spec laptops WILL cost more, and most people want a netbook for size and portability, so wouldn't want to pay more for a bulkier equivalent. Fine, you can get turd chinese generic netbooks at Maplin etc. for £99, or eee's for circa £150, but the AAO is easily the highest quality in terms of build and aesthetics.

There is a possibility the unit supplied will come with 160gb hdd inside.

Mine from the other thread did :)

I think they are bringing out a similar one with 3G on it, so maybe that explains the discounted price.
#8

Just get a samsung nc10, best netbook of them all! No compromise on HDD, battery or usability-like a normal laptop but loads smaller!
#14
Usually ships in 1 to 2 months - Crikey!

Hmmm - has a fan (unlike the Dell Mini) and is not available without paying the Windows Tax.

You are missing the point of a netbook!
The Acer is a cracking machine and far better than the Asus, IMHO.
However, choosing a netbook is a very personal thing..what's right for me might not suit someone else.
Before buying a netbook wanter in somewhere like PCW and see the thing in the flesh.

Just thought I'd let people know thats its not much point buying the 1GB version if you want to upgrade the RAM to 1.5GB as one of the stick is already soldered and cannot be removed - get the 512mb version instead and stick a 1GB ram module in - the 1GB version has 2x 512mb sitcks,

£199.99 from Play.com plus varsity/RAC discount of 5% so about £190.

it is on a 1-2 month delivery from amazon - beware!

True, but mine stays as quiet as mouse. Does 5-6 hours easily too which is what sold it for me, plus getting it for free makes it oh so much better!

You dont use windows i take it?
#20
Quiet as a mouse isn't quiet enough if you want to use it to dictate audio recordings, but that is an unusual requirement. Now of course if we could all get it for free, then that would make this deal look rather different!

Nope, don't use Windows and sick of being forced to buy it only to remove it.

Yes i suppose audio recordings would pick up a bit of operational noise, but im happy and that isnt really a requirement of mine. As for everyone getting one free...possible (but would never be a deal on here), http://www.exceem.co.uk/forums/i-got-my-free-item/36347-samsung-nc10-netbook-freebiejeebies.html< heres something to read/research on another forum im a member of.
