Orange are absolute ****. Ordered from them 2 weeks ago and i still trying to get over £400.00 back.
Took money from my account 5 times for one phone.
Never again!

This is nothing against you OP, just making people aware although a lot of people know about this company anyway.

Also seem to be a FEW available at Argos as per a previous UKHD, albeit at same price with £10 topup and with only 50p reserve & collect TCB cashback opportunity. eg my local Argos (only one checked) has 5 grey and 1 white - ie miss out on the £12 Orange online ordering :(
Dismiss the Xmas box - it's worth about 70p, not £70!
I got my grey one from Orange - and the online ordering experience was DIRE - three attempts & several phone calls - but at least it did finally get ordered at £85 ie with their short term 15% off and with Quidco tracked & £18 hopefully due + they fouled up the £10 topup charge too = some compensation for Orange online hassle - ie alls well that ends well with a BARGAIN phone there - thanks to another HUKD.
See loads of recent threads for ideas re unlocking it (free currently!) and other Android setups etc etc.

I bought the grey one from Orange last week, the phone was delivered on time and Quidco tracked.

Oh yeah, and they didn't charge me for the top up.

Just to warn, I seem to recall reading somewhere that all of the White ones are TFT screen.

Easily unlocked for free and upgraded to Android 2.2 simply with a custom ROM flash. I'm quite happily running Froyo on my San Francisco on Vodafone.

Any issues with 2.2 mate? Oh and does it have any positive effects on battery life?

I find the TFT screens brilliant. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I Agree the TFT screens are very good, still capacitive and very responsive. I have a Nexus 1 and they are as good, although slightly smaller. I bought 3 direct from Orange coz they gave £20 discount on each phone for NHS workers. I have rooted them to froyo and it has made a big difference to the look and the battery life. Also Apps to SD frees up the memory.

I am giving them to the kids for xmas, much better buy than an IPOD touch @£189.

All in all this phone is great for the price.

nice phone.

Not is you go in store, although it's a hit or miss as they don't know which is which.

Once you've flashed it with bladevillain or some other rom, how do you find out the screen type?

I mean by the packaging, pretty sure they can't open all their stock to find out which is which.

My brother got the black one from the Orange shop (complete with free watch!) and I think its TFT.

If you look at the screen when it is displaying black - shading your hand round the black area you can see it lit. So my guess for that would be TFT - ok - its a bit of a homemade test.]

how does this work? do you have to go in store to use the nhs discount? what form of proof do you need? do you still need to buy the infernal top-up?

Google 't mobile internert settings'
or
Menu, settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, access point names, and there was an option for o2 pre pay internet for me in there. might be one for t-mobile.
