I think you'll find that was a smartprice chicken at £1.99/kg.
This deal does not relate to a smartprice chicken. This is just called an Asda Whole Chicken. They all weigh 1.55kg each and are priced at £2.00 each (equivilent to £1.29/kg) :)

I know this is off topic, but a really do despair about the life of a whole chicken for £2, out of that, it has had to be fed until it's killed, the breeder has to make some money, the abattoir needs their cut, as do the distributors & the retailer. It could not have been a good life.
£2 is a good price, but I think my conscience would stop me from buying it at this price.

Oh dear. Off we go again. Expect a long thread.

When youve been made redundant and simply cant find a job of any kind locally, £2 for a whole chicken is a bargain, i guess some of these people arent surviving on £60 a week for bills, food, petrol and everything else

I'd rather eat less meat but of a higher quality.
I happily pay up to £18 for a organic free range happy chicken.

Is this the 'hock burn' type or is one that's had some kind of quality life...and yes, it does matter!!

...I try not to eat cr4p if I can possibly help it but the person that would pay £18 for an organic chick is obviously from another planet! ;)

Voted hot from me, this is a bargain, especially when your on a budget!

And I'm sure the £18 chicken is smiling down on you as you eat its cooked flesh because either way thats what it boils down to , get real if you can and want to eat a £18 chicken please do so but for those people who are happy to eat a £2 chicken (me included) its a good bargain and better that filling the kids with microwave or pre prepared rubbish at least its real food.

I always swore that I wouldn't get into one of these debates.!!!!!

anyway must go off to Asda Cheap chicken and easter egg mugs good wekend all round:roll:

you needs a slap you nutter :p

£2 for a chicken is a hot deal and for 85% of us couldn't give a cluck if it was organic or not. times are hard for alot of people and this chicken would go nicely towards a sunday roast for under £4.

get over it you tree hugging hippies. x

you obviously dont live in a village miles from anywhere, a bargain is a bargain despite what it is veg or meat and a car is cheaper to get from A-B when you live here, the only shops in my village are a post office/newsagents, a fishing tackle shop and a small londis (way overpriced). Bus fare to the nearest town is £4.80, will also need to keep the car to get to new job!

Your location PORTSMOUTH - you can probably walk to a supermarket

This deal is about chickens not beans or your choice of food ;-)

Sorry but I have to agree with the people complaining about the cramped conditions these chickens are subjected to, I have witnessed this first hand and it's not nice. Last night when I went to Asda there were about 50 of them in an oven only 4 feet by 3.

They cut the legs off just below the knuckles now so the hock burns don't show - you can still smell the p*ss as they cook though :x
#33
£2 is a good price for a chicken and the conditions the birds live in may not bother you, but it has been proven that "Standard" chickens have much higher fat content, lower protein than normal and little or no Omega 3. If all you can afford is £2 then go for it but be under no illusion that these are quality chicken or that they are any better than pre-packaged food.

Voted hot.

Now, has anyone put up anything about cheap bikes.........

HOT HOT HOT, who care if the chickens live in a 1x1foot cage, there only animals lol.

this chicken is same like one for £4.48, asda is loosing lots of money on this - as on any other deals they are doing - i know i work there and can see how much they making on each product. The product is reduced to attract more customers to the store - and if you spend your money wisely you cannot loose on this and other deals. I normally shop in asda but do round trip around tesco, sainsburys, morrisons and lidls once a week to buy all the best deals and cheap stuff. And every week i spent more in asda than elsewhere. If u want it buy it if not you buy will propably buy same chicken for at least double the price elsewhere. Problem with people here is they want deals but when is too good they just trying to find something wrong.
£4.48 of chicken for £2 = hot from me.
