no catch

bet your hooked now :-D

Shame about the food miles on this salmon.

It will have come from South America, China or Korea no doubt.

well it can not be a whole salmon if it is under 1kg in weight, and if it is then they must have been thinning out the cages very very early;-)

has anyone actually eaten this? If so how is it?

Maybe more likely to have come from Salmon farm in Scotland / Norway.

Problem with this is that have to use food colouring to get the wild Salmon colour, and more seriously fish often treated with chemicals to control pests which seemingly result from high densities of animals in the pens.

Took you longer to type all that then click the link i provided :whistling:

"Our salmon is caught in the wild in Alaska from sustainable fishing sources and immediately frozen to preserve its taste and quality. It carries the Marine Stewardship Council label and is available in most stores".

That advertising guff is the biggest load of old cod possible - straight out of a marketing manager's backside!!

If it's caught 'in Alaska' it will be by Chinese/Japanese fleets who then take it to a Chinese/Japanese factory ship before returning with it to China/Japan.

Don't get lulled into an image of Alaskan fisherman in a Deadliest Catch style fishing fleet....

How do you think it's only £3/kg when it's been half way round the world???

Sustainable fishing sources = The Pacific. Very big ocean...that's how they justify 'sustainable'.

Immediately frozen = Factory Ship.

Even the MSC's website states that 80% of this fishing ground's catch goes to Japan!

Get your fish from Scottish or Norwegian sources - much closer to home!

who cares about the food miles, some people are a little short of money at this time of year and would appreciate being able to get this sort of fish for this price. We can all go back to saving the world after Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho:santa:

The spokesman said that the fish used to be shipped from Alaska via Seattle and the Netherlands, but this year the firm has found a way to miss out Seattle 'which has cut the costs a lot'.
He claimed that the fish would be enough to feed eight, making the cost of a portion less than 39p.
The pink salmon is also known as the 'humpback' or 'humpy' because of the shape it develops before spawning. It grows to a maximum 4lb and 25in

There is a story about this on the Daily Mail website.

It is a good deal but unfortunately I am the only one who likes salmon in my house and I couldn't eat the whole thing!

I bet this will be one of those things that sells out on the first day and never comes back in stock - Asda are good at doing that!

According to the Daily Mail it weighs 1.2kg, and the shorter distance it now has to travel from Alaska is the reason it is cheaper.

An ASDA Whole Salmon :)

None at Nottingham West Bridgford.

I've just returned from my local Asda, where no such deal exists. Customer Services told me that the promotion is only on at selected sites, but I got the feeling she hadn't even heard of it. So, there's the catch...

Salmon does not freeze well, we always steam ours, and when steamed from frozen, the texture just isn't the same as fresh... hard to explain...

Still a bargain though,

Seen this on page 34 of todays sun newspaper :) says the offer came on this morning too, so maybe why people have been unable to find it so far :)

But at least it's blissfully unaware of the odd looks... as it's got no head.

Checked a few days running at my local ASDA to work and asked my other half to check another one nearer home. No sign.

Then I popped in again this afternoon and they had about 6 or 7 in the frozen section. No signs. No mention of price. Nothing.

Scanned at £3 though. Not a massive fan of salmon anyway but having a pre-christmas party and if it's cooked right, it should look impressive next to the bumper sized Sainsbury's half price ham. :)

It says you're in Mexico City so I'm assuming English is not your first language and you're not deliberately trying to sound silly.

The original post very clearly says "just under a kilo in weight". So no... not a "baby fish".
