Don't know why I am posting this deal !! But it seems like a super hot product and dirt cheap.
For now I have ordered just one, but will order 2-3 more based on the performance!

- Insert this dongle into a USB host(TV), then it will function as a disk (mass-storage device), while the contents of the disk are stored in a remote computer. Thus any devices (such as media player) with a USB host can access your computer via WiFi without a complex configuration.

- It's very easy to use! You will get rid of trouble in superfluous and sundry cables.
- High compatibility allows Linksee to support every kind of equipment with USB interface, such as TV, DVD, digital photo frame, digital set-top box and high-definition player, etc which can be upgraded rapidly through Linksee to wireless IGRS products.

you've gotta love the translated product description.

Sounds like quite a clever idea. Change your title though as I don't think people will understand what it is. Quite a neat product and not a bad price.

My understanding is you can plug it into any device with USB Mass Storage support, and it will simply act as a USB Memory stick. The files that appear will be stored on a folder on your PC.

Might buy one not sure if I have an immediate use for it though.

Could this be used to convert a normal external HD into a network one?

No, it works in reverse of that. It acts like a normal usb stick but the source of the files is a network share.

USB Memory Stick with Wi-Fi?
#9
I suppose it needs its own software installed on the PC ?
Would be great if it worked on standard windows shares (SMB) !

Do you know if these are any good?

Or would I be best putting the £27 towards a NAS drive?
#11
depends how well it works, what file sharing protocol it uses, how stable it is etc. would need to see real reviews before buying.

What I don't understand is that this won't work unless the tv can play the files on the external device. Which means its doing nothing more than replacing a long usb cable or a usb hard drive, but making it slower. Very little will stre3am well over b.g wifi certainly not HD and most higher bitrate DVD rips would fail to. You may as well spend £10 more and get 2.5" 250Gb hard drive and plug that in.

I honestly can't see much use for it.

sounds like a good idea. I have been looking for something like this, My lg plasma can play divx etc via usb but needs an external hd or flash drive. As far as I know you can't simply run a long usb cable from your pc to another usb host as both pc & tv are hosts, so this solves that problem.

That looks interesting... Does it support wi-fi? i.e. if I plugged it into my standalone hard drive and stuck a usb wireless network adaptor into it, would I then be able to stream media from it to various appliances in my home? Obviously this can be done if the hard drive is plugged into the computer anyway, but would be good to be able to stream stuff wirelessly without having to have my computer on too...

No the idea idea would be you plug your hard drive into the USB socket, and router into the ethernet socket. This would then make the hard drive accessible to all computers connected to your network, either via cable or wireless.

Can I use this on my Sony BDP S-370 with USB interface on it - So that I could watch BBC iplayer without connecting the LAN Cable ??
