Rockshox as a brand do cheap forks and expensive forks, so do suntour. The forks on this bike are better than *some* Rockshox models. Rockshox are no longer made in the USA, they are made in the far east by.....Suntour.
This bike has 650b+ wheels and tyres, these are more expensive than regular wheelsizes as they are A) new and exciting, B) less common and c) use more material.
This also means that the wheel hub spacings are 10mm wider than normal, I'm not sure that Rockshox do a fork in this price range in these boost sizes.
This bike also comes with Sram GX 11 speed. This usually costs the same as XT when buying replacements, the 10-42 cassette requires a special xd Driver free hub, again, uncommon. You'll be paying a premium on any bike because of this.
It's a great bike for the money. 8)
Thanks mr storm very interesting knowledge, your are quite right on the wider spaced forks, they do seem to be at a big premium for the bluto, boost variant. I hadn't seen the SRAM gx kit, again reassuringly expensive.
I like mine functions well, except when setting up tubeless earlier in the year my damn cassette and xd driver fell off the wheel, as I was giving the wheel a shake and turned over to get the sealant spread about

Ha, I did that once on dt wheels. Pumped up the tube, it popped and the shock made the cassette and free hub fall off. Deafening too!

Many come with rockshox at £1200 hence the reason the bike is average for £1200 but you are not paying £1200.
So the rrp looks high, seen it with all bikes, components, etc, everything's priced In US$ so Brexit has pushed our prices up by at least 10-20% by the distributors shimano, silverfish etc
A decent bike but never £1200 spec

I'm looking for a road bike as I'm going to start cycling to work. I've been considering theBtwin Triban 500 SE for £299.99 from Decathlon. Is this worth the extra £90? thx

My brother and a friend have both been riding T500SEs for a couple of years and very happy with them. If you are sticking to roads I'd say that's the way to go on a budget. If you are going off road on cycle tracks and the like this might suit. It's more versatile but heavier and more a jack of all trades probably fine for some road, light off road, winter commute. If it's definitely a road bike you want Triban 500SE all the way.

Good price but cycling deals get a rough ride on this site so the heat or lack of tells you nothing.

Ha, you're not wrong there.
Cheers, just got a pair too. Great price.
I've had a pair for f these for over 12 months and they're really good. Until recently my go to shorts for anything over 60km. The straps are great and the pad is very comfy. I doubt there's anything better for that price.
I've got these shorts. They are tight fitting but comfy - some people might need to go up a size compared to other brands.

Mine tore on the red section at the back which connects to the shoulder straps. I'm not the only one so watch that.

if you ride a bike every day 7+ miles, a £200 wiĺl not do it. get yourself a £600+ bike. it will make the journey a lot easier and less stress on your body while still working your muscles and keeping you fit
It's actually a pretty decent spec for the money. Even has a Fizik saddle. 9.2kg isn't light for a full carbon bike but given Tiagra/discs it is understandable. This would make an ideal first roadbike/commuter/winter all rounder. And for those who say £750 is too much for a first bike, better pay a little more for a bike which will then not need to be "replaced/upgraded" than to do what I did & buy a £450 bike prior to getting hooked.
Will this get Chubs around the Nurburgring in 30 minutes ?

Just thought I'd say I kept with the two SRAM parts and installed them earlier.
Apparently I went from a S830 cassette and chain to S850 ones so at least I'll find out whether brand upgrades are worth it.

@SFconvert
Cheers, I'll keep an eye on my chainset. I just had a gander and the teeth are pretty pointed...good god! :)
I went to an amazing place in Brighton called Cranks which let me use their tools for a donation, I got an adjustment lesson too....clearly I'm going back!
uptwisting
Thanks for all your advice, really useful.
Especially the general tips @whatyadoinsucka.
I am now leaning to taking it back and getting a KTC but I think I'll do some testing instead.
I'm a heavier guy (15 stone) who puts a lot of pressure on his bike with some awful gear changes on the way. Plus I sprint a decent amount.
Cheers @plewis00. Also I'd go easier but heck, that's just not me ;) CHAAAARGE!!!!
Although chain wear is known as stretch, it isn't really "stretching" so putting lots of torque etc really shouldn't affect it it (you need a lot of force to "stretch steel". So it isn't the chain getting longer as such, it is the rollers / pins wearing out between the links (these are the weakest link in the chain). As the pins wear down, the rollers floating on top of them can move more so the space between 2 links gets effectively longer, this is then what wears the cassette and chainrings as the chain no longer sits neatly between the teeth.
Pin and roller wear is more dependent on how much dirt and abrasive grit gets inito your chain than anothing else. And miles obviously.
I've got 1500+ miles out of cheap chains though used on commuter bikes and never cleaned, it's well worth buying one of those chain wear tools, then you can just replace the chain at the right time rather than the cassette and possibly chan rings.

If you just let the chain and casette wear down completely, you will probably get 3000 + miles out of it before it becomes unrideable, but then you will definitely looking at new cassette and chainrings.

Even on a cheapish bike the chainset is going to be £25 plus.
I carry a chain tool and a repair link when I am racing or out on my MTB.If you do
miles you should look at changing your chain once or twice as year but this will probably apply to commuters on road or hybrid bikes.Rear cassettes are easy to change with a chain wrench (about £10) and cassette specific spline socket (about £5 or so).
fatreg
12 is also reserved for mtb at the moment. Not sure why though, road were the first to get 11.
Worth nothing, as it's hasn't been explicitly said, 8 speed chains will work with 9 speed systems, the internal sizes (of the chain) are exactly the same,

12 is reserved for mtb because of 1x drivetrains (only one chainring upfront) so having extra gears at the back is beneficial where most road bikes have 2 chainrings so effectively 22 gears with 11 speed. Wouldn't surprise me if 12 speed made its way to the road too though, innovation for innovations sake.
Don't think this is particularly cheap tbh, I bought an 8 speed SRAM PC830 chain for £5 earlier this year from chain reaction cycles. The PC850 is £6.99 here http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sram-pc850-8-speed-chain/rp-prod21295
The PC830 is still £4.99 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sram-pc830-7-8-speed-chain/rp-prod26313
For those asking about fit, you can only use an 8 speed on 8 speed or lower bikes. If you have 8 speed then a 7 speed chain "should" also work but you "may" have issues with it catching and increased chain rub on the front mech. An 8 speed chain may work on 9 speed but it's not advisable for 10 speed and above.

My returned 43's have just appeared on the site! Worth a go if you are regular shoe size 8.
Besford
My local Aldi has reduced theirs from £19.99 to £14.99. Can these really be that much better?
I've had two pairs of the Lidl bike shoes. Nice shoes for walking but the SPD cleats were hard to keep tight. They loosened and moved, so the shoes were hard to unclip, which is exciting/dangerous. Eventually stripped the threads in the sole clips and bought other shoes.
Buy cheap, buy twice as they say ...
I got mine and have since done a 15 and 40 mile ride in them and I love them, my first cycling shoes and I've only fell off once

ST as someone already said stands for stability. A stability shoe is for an over pronator (feet role inwards). A stability shoe stops this. People either need the Ultra Boost or the Ultra boost ST. This depends on the behaviour of your feet when they strike the ground as you run.. You shouldn't be choosing one or the other based on the pretty lace cage. You'll more than likely end up injured.
Blue sold out and black up slightly to £65 now. Hopefully mine will be posted soon, cheers op
