Shame I didn't see this deal yesterday! I bought a Wii at Argos with Wii Play. Got a tenner off Wii Play by buying it with the console so I supose I should be happy:)

I'm now after some Wii Ponts and a Classic Controller.......

The cheapest I've seen is:

2000 Wii Points from HMV for £14.99
Classic Controller: £11.99

Has anyone found anything better on these or any other accessories?

I've been wanting a Wii for a while, but someone told me not to bother unless you always have groups of friends round to play as it doesn't play well beyond a party console...

what to do???
#8
So does this Wii not come with any games at all? Just the console? Are there any good package deals around?

Cheers
#9
Is quidco cashback gauranteed...

Wii points are £7 per 1000 if you buy through the console - slightly cheaper.

You could also get away with finding some used Gamecube controllers instead of forking out for Classic.

why do people use the nunchuck thingymebob?

How do you get the price down to £150? Don't Quidco only pay 5% - The Wii is listed under their 'Computing' category and the Quidco page shows 5% for Audio and TV (including computers)
#17
It says 9% for electricals, and 5% for "Audio and TV (including computers)", so rossington is right, it will work out at £156.74

It's got an analogue stick and some extra buttons, so you use it to move around in some games.
#19
From quidco, quote;

'This merchant pays earnings on the sales value excluding VAT and delivery'

So does that still mean it works out to be £156, or is it more than that?

I've still ordered one though, its the cheapeat pack I've seen!!
#20
Yeah even less... probably work out at £160ish
#21
Just ordered one.
What are the best games for this console, which make best use of the technology?
What accessaries will I need to buy?
#22
rayman is good, great party game,
Excite truck is a fun no brainer gamer,
Zelda is good, but requires alot of time.
Mario Strikers, not bad, 1st online wii game, but a shame online is only 1 player.
Cooking mama not too bad,

bigf, here's a good site to get you started for a guide on the best games to get...a lot of them are versions of old Gamecude/N64/super nintendo games that have been ported (and are cheap!)...well until some of the big titles are released like Super Mario Galaxy (approx Nov 30th), Scarface (6th July), Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4 (both end of the month)

If you jump to http://uk.wii.ign.com/index/reviews.html?constraint.floor.article.overall_rating=10&constraint.return_all=is_true&sort.attribute=article.overall_rating&sort.order=desc and just change the 'show scores' bit then you can get an idea of what's been rated/reviewed at 8, 9 and 10 out of 10 (for example)

As for the accessories you'll need to buy, the console comes with just one controller and one nunchuck in most bundles (but maybe in this John Lewis bundle there isn't a nunchuck as it's not listed as being included on their website) so you'll need to buy one of those and you'll most likely want to get another controller & nunchuck for two-player gaming (not all games require the nunchuck though). If you fancy more than two players (and multi-player is where the Wii excels) then you might need to buy more than that (or get your regular Wii-friends to buy their own to bring round!). An SD memory card is also gonna be handy for saving your data and saving any downloaded games you get from those available online (as the Wii only has 512MB of internal memory, so will fairly quickly fill up)... as well as a classic controller or gamecube controller to play the old ported games too.

Have a search through this site to find posted bargains...as there's been a few threads on this. The best way to get hold of another controller is probably to buy 'Wii Play' which normally comes with an extra controller anyway and gives you lots more multi-player games.

I have to agree. Chances are that it will drop in price, 6 months is a long time in the tech world ...
#30
suppose, but it means ive definatly got her one, they are going like gold dust!!!
#31
plus with quid co its only around 155 inc sports and delivery - not bad!
#32
Mine's tracked at £8.95 on quidco.
#33
Showing out of stock, are they on back order?
#34
OOS, Gutted, I was very tempted. :-( :-( :-(
#35
I'm not so sure about the price dropping.

It doesnt really have any direct competition, and its still flying off the shelves. Sales are doing so well in fact that Nintendo's stock market value has overtaken Sony today.

360, and more likely the PS3 will drop in price before xmas, but doubt the wii will.
#36
mine got cancelled :x I dunno why....
I did order one last time when they were back in stock about a month ago, and arrived without any problems.
btw this is the first time that I used the £15 voucher code ( is it only for BT employees ?). did anyone have success with this code ?

you will probably get one controller and one nunchuck in the box.

you will benefit from having another controller (comes free with the wii play game - btter value for money) and maybe another nunchuck depending on what games you like. e.g. two nunchucks = two player boxing on wii sports. one nunchuck, one player boxing. if you have a big room and a big telly, get four controllers for four player tennis!

if you plan to play downloaded games you'll probably need wii classic or gamecube controllers. either will work.

as for games, sports is one of the faves in our house and the easiest for new players to pick up. wii play is OK, it's a bit more gentle, the games are quite good e.g. fishing, ping pong, air hockey, racing and it's a good way to learn how to move the controller around.

wario smooth moves is good for big groups and is the one that has impressed my friends the most. you need to complete the whole game before you can select multiplayer mode, though. it took me about three hours to complete it. the good thing is, you only need one controller for multiplayer as you have to pass it around (part of the fun/confusion of the game) so it might be a good one to start with.
