Will this still charge when the Wii is in standby? Not much use to me if you have to have the Wii switched on to charge them as they're generally being used when the Wii is on!

Hot deal, cheers OP

Watch out for the fact that the handsets shown have their rubber covers removed (very difficult to do over a motion plus) because the new rechargeable battery units have their connections at the back not the bottom.
This was obviously designed before the motion plus release.

You can buy a wall plug with a USB socket on and charge off this overnight so the Wii doesn't even have to be left turned on. Any rechargeable batteries supplied will be low capacity, meaning they won't last as long between charges than the more expensive higher capacity ones though. Found this out last year when Argos were reducing them to the same price as they are now.

Good point, hadn't thought of that, but like you say they'll be low capacity and have to be plugged in rather too oftn for my liking. Also, as has been mentioned youd have to remove the silicone sleeve to recharge. I think I'll stick to using Hybrid rechargeables and replacing them the old fashioned way!

Quite possibly. There was also Masterpiece Skywarp for £19.99 about a week and a bit ago. Suddenly, come Christmas Eve, it's on sale for.. wait for it.. £29.99.

These are good BUT there is a design problem with them.

The kit comes with replacement battery covers (the white plastic rectangle clips) - this is because the replacement ones have small electrical metal points that allow you to 'dock' into the docking station and charge.

The problem I had was the actual clip disintigrated and snapped off, all by itself, causing the battery cover to not stay in place and the battery to fall out. This happened by itself, when it was clipped in place, and not during removal (as you might expect).

When I went to the second remote to switch the covers I attempted to unclip the second battery cover and the clip disintegrated in my hands too!

BUT, not a "burn down Argos!!" type problem, as you only need to use the included battery covers when you need to recharge them up, so I just swapped the covers for the original Nintendo covers (which don't crumble!) and I only swap them back when I run out of power.

Power seems OK, I get a few hours out of a charge and they charge quickly. Not sure how much power these things will retain after a few months usage though, probably not a lot.

They will charge when the Wii is in standby (yellow light on Wii). They don't charge when the Wii is off (red light on Wii).

These were designed for the motion plus, but the issue is that the design isn't really ideal. You can tell the design accomodated for the MP because the plastic 'ledge' the Wiimote sits can be set for two heights (see image). One height is perfect for the standard Wiimote, the other height is perfect for a Wii-mote and Motion Plus. As said above, the design 'flaw' is that you still need to yank the Wii-mote out of the rubber condom to charge.

I bought these a few weeks ago for £6.66 and they were pretty poor to be honest.

They took a lot of wiggling in the cradle to get the contacts on the back of the remotes to connect properly, whether with or without the MotionPlus thingamebobs attached.

On top of that, they didn't charge unless the Wii is actually on. Doesn't work in standby or when off.

I'm going to take it back as this one, unlike the other charger Argos have at £6.66, isn't excluded from the 30 day money back deal.
