This is extremely old news and a bit insincere. I also think this is the sort of loophole that you shouldn't make too public, since it increases the likelihood of them stopping it for legitimately disabled people.

Its only old news to you because you asked the question 4 months ago and someone on here was kind enough to tell you about the loophole! Heat from me as this site is about sharing info so others can save money, not keeping it to
yourself.

It's been Posted a handful of times over the last 6 months on here, that MAY be part reason for the coldness perhaps?.

Personally speaking though, I like such Post's, as contrary to popular belief, there are still lot's of people out there that may either genuinely not know?, and/or missed the earlier incarnation's of this Post last year? (but are now able to still benefit from this as such ... )

So I see such Post's as mainly helpful. :-)

That's what I call irony ...

Do you think every member has been checking every day of every month? I checked and didn't find it. Maybe because I'm disabled? Maybe this post will be of use to other users of ATs.

Thank you weenski76.

I am not aware of such deals but then I'm not looking.
I never upgraded before as Id heard all the bad stories, hence the reason it was supposedly free in the first place.
Can anyone who has upgraded give an honest opinion, is it really worth it from win 7. I like Win 7 and its only because of things like Microsoft Groove that requires 10 that I would consider upgrading.
#17
I had my first experience of a brand new Windows 10 machine a few months ago. What a mess compared to windows 7. If you want to upgrade, HOT. Take it from me, don't bother getting burnt.

I wonder how many of the people who used this actually use assistive technologies??

Basically, this post was intended to help other disabled people who, like myself, didn't know about this offer until today.

I'm no expert on computer stuff, but as an ordinary user who cannot do all the tweaks myself, have a good read via google for things like 'is windows 10 good' or 'should I upgrade to windows 10' - I had no option, but find many of the problems (which are said to be common with windows 10) very annoying.
I only use wifi, and every now and then it disconnects itself, not ideal when in the middle of listing on ebay and you lose everything.
Another wifi issue is the difficulty of using free wifi areas where a login is required - very often my windows 10 laptop refuses to bring up the login page, despite a cheapie tablet on windows 8 having no problem...... and so on.

I really can't understand the negativity regarding windows 10. Yes it does have a few issues, but overall much better than 7 once you've found your way around it IMHO.

it's excellent because it's much faster & safer

if you don't like the interface just install (free) Classic Shell which reverts your look & functionality essentially back to Windows 7 http://www.classicshell.net/

if you're worried by the telemetry ('spying' - it's not spying but that's what the sheeple call it) then install (free) Spybot Anti Beacon and immunize all - this speeds up your PC and stops it sending data to Microsoft or help anybody else update https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot-anti-beacon/

I also think this is the sort of loophole that you shouldn't make too public, since it increases the likelihood of them stopping it for legitimately disabled people.

Is it not likely that Microsoft have deliberately left this looophole open as they KNOW it will be publicisied and used by non-disabled people.

For all sorts of reasons Microsoft are desperate to get people off older releases of Windows and on to Windows 10 so the more people who use the loophole the happier Microsoft will be, so they are not likely to close it.

what's the betting Microsoft shortly have a 'window' (geddit!!!?) of opportunity where EVERYBODY on W7 or W8 can again upgrade for free, widely advertised as a generous gesture from MS?
#29
Try it but put a date in your calendar for 30 days time, so when you want to revert back you can. Otherwise your pretty much stuck with it or a lot of hassle.

The whole area of windows 10 upgrades is smoke and mirrors.

On a whim I bought an MS Surface after Christmas via IBOOD it only had 32gb of storage and had Windows 8.1 on it. It was a faff but I managed to upgrade it to Windows 10 pro and it activated without problem. On Microsofts own website for the Surface it states the upgrade to Windows 10 has now ended and that you would need to buy a copy....

Clearly not always the case...

For what it's worth In my opinion Windows 10 is better than any previous version, but a zillion times more fiddly than an Apple product.

Good for you.

But in all fairness, I'm familiar with a few disabled, of whom for one reason or another genuinely still don't know of this Windows 10 incentive freebie, etc?, so rehashes like this every once in awhile, I think is a wee bit helpful ...

But I hear what you saying though. :-)

I've been using Windows all my life but every time I use my partner's Macbook I find it more fluid and simple to use. I think Apple just make things a bit easier on the whole. Even Windows 10 is still more convoluted than it needs to be, though it is less of a mess than Windows 8.
