The Microsoft Police® will kick your front door in at 3AM for piracy!
Cold, must be full of viruses
Theft. Plain and simple, you wouldn't walk in to (Asda/Tesco/Sainsbury's/Waitrose* delete as appropriate) and take a DVD off the shelf would you!
I've heard these are stolen from legitimate PC's and it's only a matter of time before they expire!
Windows 10 LOL!
LOL Micro$oft, Microshaft, Microsh*t (pick whichever you found mildly amusing the first time you heard it... in 1995)
Why would you pay £10 for this?
Linux is free, I love the Tux! Games? err... Viva Linux!!
I'm going to stay with XP thanks.
I'm going to stay with 7 thanks.
Cheaper on (eBay / Gumtree / Local Pub)* note to self: don't buy from any of these three.
As it's OEM, you're breaking the Geneva convention unless it's sold with an item of hardware.
Cold, bloated spyware OS phoning home to Micro$oft, Microshaft, Microsh*t (see above).
Will this work on a Mac?
Will this work on a 14 year old system I never use?
Without the product key sticker, you might as well be asking to be put in prison!
Can get it on Pirate Bay l33t!!
LOL Opium Pulses sounds like a vegetarian heroin dealer!!
Does this come with the DVD?
Can I install this on a (insert model or rough description of anything with a plug)?

I JUST BUILT MY PC

When you built it, you must have broken the keyboard. I'd get that fixed before you start worrying about Windows licenses.

to upgrade a machine from XP, would I need to do a clean install or can I just upgrade? (actually thinking about going to 8.1)

Clean install, always my preferred choice of upgrade anyway

Just what I need, fixing up a slightly older PC for a family member. It does not have UEFI bios so will this still work or do I go for the Windows7 ISO. Thanks

There isn't an upgrade path from XP directly to 10 just like there wasn't for XP to Windows 7. So you need to backup your data and do a clean install.

You can as long as you have Windows 10 Professional. Microsoft offer an upgrade path from Windows 10 Core (Home) to Windows 10 Professional but as far as I know the only way to do that is pay Microsoft and it's a lot more than this deal.

Windows 10 works with MBR and UEFI. ISOs are old hat, do it properly and use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and make a bootable USB stick.

TRUE!, but in all fairness, there wasn't one for either Windows 95 OS1 to Windows 98? (it's first incarnation, so NOT the Upgrade, and not the SE/Second Edition either), &/or Windows 95 OSR2 to Windows 98SE?, or Windows ME/Millenium to to Windows 2000?, or Windows 98SE to Windows XP?, but allllll my above stated instances worked flawlessly between my above mentioned examples, etc?.

Not all versions of the 'Windows pathway' have to be mechanically followed one by one to get that same flawless finish? (like Microsoft would otherwise have you believe?).

It is actually possible to 'skip stuffs' and still get your flawless finish regardless? (I've one a few of my above mentioned, in the past too, on not just my PC, but that of 1 or 2 family and friends also, so I get how my last mentioned statement works ... ) lol.

Windows XP could easily 'jump' to Windows 7 (sidestepping the ill-fated Windows Vista altogether?), and Windows 7 could similarly 'jump' alllll the way to either Windows 8.1 &/or Windows 10 Home (Hardware' ofcourse allowing?), and in so doing, end up sidestepping the similarly ill-fated Windows 8.0 altogether also?.

In a nutshell (so to speak?), is basically how the real animal of the beast works? (relatively speaking ... ) :-)

to upgrade a machine from XP, would I need to do a clean install or can I just upgrade? (actually thinking about going to 8.1)
Legality / morality aside;

If you are running XP, then the machine is probably at least 10 years old - I'm not sure Windows/10 would be my first choice for an upgrade -you need a minimum of 2Gb of memory and a minimum of 16Gb of disk - much more is probably needed for "real world" computing.

Then you have driver support - is there Windows/10 code for all the attachments - I know my Sony who made my Vaio running Windows/7 have posted that they were not confident it would ruin W/10 properly, so I've not gone down that route.

Before attempting this I would seek a memory upgrade to at least 4Gb, more if your board supports it, if it doesn't support that, then I think there's a hint there, it's time to break open the piggy bank!

Use a system checker like the one supplied by "crucial.com" to see how much your system will take (and if you're really strapped for cash, buy an equivalent upgrade from Ebay, although some may argue that's verging on naughty)

Finally, you ask "upgrade or fresh install" - (there's no "upgrade" from XP) if you are insistent that you are going down this route I'd play safe and buy a new hard drive and do a fresh install - that way, if it all goes Pete Tong, you can swap in the original drive and at least you have a working computer again.

Personally, this all sounds a bit fishy to me, I'd "play safe" and consider a linux distro - something like MINT will support pretty much all your hardware and is a far more comfortable fit for older equipment, the added bonus is that it costs nothing to download and run.

Voted cold, simply because it sounds as legit as a nine quid note.

It doesn't require any special checks or anything special to be enabled it just asks if you are using things such as magnifier or keyboard help. Then just tick the box and run the download. If someone (Microsoft) is giving it away free still I'll take it :-)

Yep!.

UNLESS your able to get dome kind of Windows 'key' from somewhere? + the respective Windows ISO of your chosen Windows flavour (Win 7, 8.0, 8.1, 10, or whatever?), then I don't honestly see how it could?.

But (your Emulator aside ... ) if your able to meet all of my above mentioned criteria?, that I scarcely see as to why not?.

After all, Parallels on the Apple MAC fires up Windows perfectly, so yours should be a bit of a breeze too?. :-)

I done allllll mine pre-quota!, hehehe, so never bumped into this 'stuffs', lol (but I did however BLATANTLY wonder how the 'other halves' fared in being able to still get it for free though?, hahahahaha), thanx for that timely breakdown of events, as it were (I obviously knew it existed!, as per my above link spelling out such, etc?, but still) ...
