Microsoft Windows Home Server, as its name suggests, is a version of Windows that you run at home as a server to store your music, pictures, videos and other media.

It also provides automated backup to help protect your individual computers.

Home server can run on a fairly low powered computer, and does not require a screen or keyboard as you can connect to it from your normal computer. The code is based on Windows Server 2003.

Order the DVD online and it will be sent to you in a few days. I ordered mine last week and it did indeed arrive a few days later.

Price is only £4.58 plus VAT and it comes on 3 DVDs.

Go to this web site (or click on "Go To Deal" on the right) then select "Try it for 120 days"

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/default.mspx

btw: I have not yet installed it myself so canot comment on how easy it to install or how well it works.

There is a Getting started guide if you want more info

Like you I have got many trial versions for free, but that it because I am signed up as a Microsoft Partner.

This is open to anyone, and I dont think you can argue with a cost of about £5.00, I guess you could say that covers administration and postage.

And it is 3 DVDs

(they reckon it'll be fixed by June 2008)

They need the money, considering the price cuts of Vista (due to poor take up)

Seems like a decent idea to me.

How long before people start voting cold because it is Micro$oft?

I voted cold because the bug is too major to risk going near this software.

That is a BIG bug!!!!

It's really not. It only happens in particular circumstances and so has only affected a tiny percentage of people so far. It is an important bug to fix, however.

Agree very good product good if you run a microsoft environment at home............

How do you sign up as a Microsoft Partner? I tried scouring the website for it and couldnt find it at all. A friend of mine had this and paid around £100 a year for it MSDN access, but he could download anything from the MS suite.
#13
Just FYI, you can't get Windows Home Server from MSDN.
