-12 here in Blackburn.

Our windscreen wash is useless and that's the asda one.
Can't replace it With a decent one until it defrosts.

Even the water in the car I had in just in case I couldn't cleen the screen has been frozen for over a week.

Even though that says "Concentrated formula" it's probably not very concentrated, actually it's Homebase so it's probably complete rubbish. The Lidl one says it's effective down to -60, I'm sure most concentrated screenwashes I've used have said down to -35, so -60 is pretty good.

"For use in screenwash systems only"

Or you could just throw a bucket of it, undiluted, over your car, from the bedroom window. That'll soon defrost the bastid!

so -60 is pretty good.

Do you know something that I don't? Just how cold do you think it is going to get:o

£4.99 in my Lidl (Edinburgh Gilmerton) just bought some on the wy home.

It's good for down to -60 straight, or -20 diluted 1:1. -10 1:2 so I think 1:2 dilution or even more diluted will be fine for most of UK.

Give yourself more margin. It's a hell of a bind if it does freeze up - you could be waiting 'till April!

Concentrated 2.5l £1 at Asda.
#14
I bought the stuff from Asda , 2.5 litre for £1

Cheap but it's impossible to know what the concentration is as it doesn't state the temperatures it can be used at.

Recommended mix:

Winter::....... 2 parts water....-....1 part screenwash

Severe winter:..... Screenwash used neat.

So how you quantify winter and severe winter?

I like the lidl container it has a spout, will be re-using it when it's finished.

It depends on the product you buy really.

I have always bought Comma screenwash

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_274583_categoryId_229902_langId_-1?cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1

Its not cheap at £3.99 a litre but in this weather down to -10 c I get 5 litres (20% fluid) out of it and its never frozen.
Average winter of -2 c and it makes 10 litres, buy cheap and you just end up using more to get required protection, its a false economy.

And a frozen tank or pipe that split just not worth it.

Used this on a trip to and from Inverness with temperatures of -12c , whilst driving. Worked without fault.
Car was also left out overnight at -15c and still worked first time. First Class product.
#18
Thanks for this! I like the look of the bottle too. I always manage to spill some normally
#19
I wish I had seen this earlier I just bought 2 litres for £3.99 from a petrol station - well needed heat added on this cold day!
#20
Tesco give screenwash from the air machine at their petrol stations, £1 for air (5mins I think) and screenwash (80 seconds I think)

how good is methylated spirits in screen wash ??

how good is methylated spirits in screen wash ??

The point you should consider is will it strip the paint off as its clearing the screen?
Meths would be a lot more expensive unless you all ready have a bottle:)

Whereas the Lidl name guarantees quality :?

Bought Asda and 99p stores ones. Just arrived from Manchester and both frozen. I used with no water. I hope the Lidl one works...

tesco 5l screen wash currently £2

The 5l is £3, but it's already diluted 50/50 --- so in effect you are only getting 2.5l. The 2l bottles of concentrated are £2, but better to use.

Lidl were selling their stuff last week. I bought a bottle of that as well, but haven't used it yet - because I'm still using the Tesco Concentrated. On spec the Lidl stuff looks better, because of the -60C limit ---- Tescos only says down to -15C when undiluted.
#28
I've just tried to fill up my other halfs car with the tesco concentrated stuff. It had been in her passenger footwell for a while and I'd not got round to it. When I came to pour it in, I found it had turned to slush while it was still in the bottle, inside a car that had been warm at various points during the week!! So I'm not holding out for it to be very effective when its in the car.

I'm not sure how they calculate the -60/-15/-5 limits, but I'm fairly sure that we've not got down to the Tesco's quoted -15, and it had already started freezing. I think if these sorts of temperatures start becoming regular I might look into the Comma stuff or other 'proper' screenwashes.

By the way, is it really called antifreeze rather than screenwash? I'd hate to think how many people use this and then think they can use any antifreeze in their screenwash...
#29
I filled mine with the Asda stuff last night and i've got a nice blue snow tinted screen now :)

Ideal for feeding the baby.

I prefer gin in tonic myself but everyone to their own.

Don't use it in your car though.

I bought some 65% alcohol Martinique White Rum on a booze cruise to Calais once as it was less than a third the price of Bacardi and stronger. But truly revolting no matter what you mixed it with! It did a great job in my screenwash bottle though.
#34
Has everyone used this undiluted???
#35
Who's managed to get this? Where?

Is it only available in certain regions?

I've tried two stores in Yorkshire, and Greater Manchester, both don't have any.
