I find Evergreen a bit too basic but it's a good deal nonetheless. Hoping the sell-off of the Forestry Comission land doesn't affect Forest Holidays as we've been going for years and really love the sites

looks like good value? anyone been to any of these before? which one would you recommend? :-)

hi, i posted this last year as I love it there.... http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/fancy-a-winter-break-in-a-log-cabin/775995

I am going to Argyll in 2 weeks to Golden Oak which is top of the range and costing me £183 for a midweek break overlooking Loch Long and it has a hot tub, luxurious fittings and a wii. I have been to a Silver Birch in Keldy and that was lovely although in need of a little TLC. They are opening in Sherwood Forest in November this year so that will be nice for next xmas.
Have a read of the link i have given you as a lot of people like it. I would personally go for the Silver Birch or Golden Oak and go for Argyll or Strathyre, but it depends where you live I suppose if you dont want to travel too far.

I can rate the places too. Been to Deerpark, Keldy and Strathyre and they were all fantasticly relaxing secluded holidays with superbly decked-out cabins.

What do you do in strathyre in Jan/Feb though? I am tempted but... I think we'd just sit there watching tv- and we can do that in our own house. Callendar must be a miserable place in Jan/Feb (it's miserable at the best of times...)

Went to Strathyre Cabins the week before Christmas last, on the previous dela posted. Its a great place and well worth the visit, but not much to do if the weather turns again, we were snowed in most of the week. Still can't think of many better places to be snowed in!

They're perfect for that sort of holiday, En1gma.

As for activities in Keldy at that time of year, Pickering's a lovely shopping town, there's a fantastic moors drive to Whitby you can take,, Dalby Forest is round the corner and amazing for walks and cycling, the "easy" walk at the Keldy site is ace with lots of things for kids to find...

Great value!
I was at the Strathyre site last year and we had a great time.Cabins were beautiful, location was peaceful. My nephew didn't want to go home, He loved the real fire we had which we toasted marshmallows on lol. Oh and he loved the fact that he could go in the hot tub we had at our patio at night lol. Good times, highly recommend it.

I can really recommend the cabins in Argyll overlooking Loch Long. We went there last Feb and we are going again this feb as we have longed to go back the whole year. it is a beautiful secluded place with gorgeous cabins. it took us 5 hrs car journey to get there but it is so worth it! Whilst we were there we picked Mussels from the loch, cleaned them and had them with white wine and garlic :oD Happy days! (its a sea loch) there are really lovely places to visit all around. not loads to do for teenagers but then its not Centre Parcs. its nicer! especially if you get a hot tub that they keep heated the whole time. We are going to try the place in Sherwood when that opens if poss. Can't recommend this place enough!

love the pics, going to have a look later might be good for all the kids to run around and burn off energy, hot tub too!

I stayed in an Evergreen last new year in Cornwall with my missus, sister-in-law and her husband and had a great time. It was basic, but all you need. That's a great price. I highly recommend!

Heat added!

Went to Cropton just before Christmas and had a great time. The cabins are lovely and very toasty with underfloor heating throughout. Hottubs all overlook the forest. you can pre order for the next day hot bread and croissants etc in the Forest retreat. Also try the new Inn in Cropton village - lovely food and ales

Keldy and Cropton are very close together! My hubby is from Pickering/cropton. the New inn is ACE. Best beers/ales around! they brew them there themselves. beware of "old Goat" and "Monkman's slaughter" we know people that LIVE in one of the lodges in Keldy. (lucky things) We havn't been to either cropton or Keldy to stay as its a bit too close to family so we stay with them. York is only 40 min drive away (where I live now) Pickering is a very cute village to visit and the Castle at the top has great views. also near Keldy is the Roman Fort I visited for the first time this year. from the seating bit there you can see the Yorkshire Dales. SO picturesque.
Saying that we just can;t wait to go to Argyll!! :oD

We just got back from a stay up in Yorkshire. What a disaster! Was lethal trying to get access to the site, you needed a 4x4 or tractor to get you in. All pipes were frozen upon arrival so had no water for 2 days. Then when it did come on the dishwasher leaked, flooding the entire ground floor of the cabin. No signal to be had and the only payphone on-site didn't work so couldn't ring the emergency number either. Also found a pair of underwear lying in the cabin and the hot-tub had green sludge all around the edge. Easily the worst Christmas ever and we paid over £550 for our stay!

which site did you stay at? what cabin type?

my hope is that the freeze is over and the current weather stays

We stayed in a Golden Oak at Strathyre and then Silver Birch at Cropton, and the Silver Birch was far superior to the Golden Oak much to my surprise when we turned up. It had underfloor heating throughout whereas the Golden Oak didn't and it made such a difference at this time of year. Strathyre is a much nicer location though.

At Strathyre we had a Golden Oak, Cabin number 1 right on the end but the view was mainly of the bins and service area, plus the manager of that site lives there by the bins (in an apartment) and told us on the welcome morning that she could hear us in the hot tub and even recited some things we were all chatting about it, just when we thought we had some privacy we realised we didn't have any!

thats good sounds more positive was worried the silver birch wouldnt be as good quality but at the price i paid and most the reviews on here sounds like they are just as nice as the golden cabins minus towels and slippers etc

The sites that have the new style cabins are the real nice ones. Cropton and Argyll and Forest of Dean certainly have them as well as the new site at Sherwood I would imagine opening this year

Underfloor heating is wonderful and we actually had to turn it down in some serious sub zero temperatures outside.....

We also had some frozen pipe issues at Cropton but the staff were great at keeping us informed and getting the issues sorted in -12 conditions. No real inconvenience from us. Website shows there is no phone reception on many of teh sites and also to prepare for snowy weather (yes it does get snowy and icy in Dec/Jan in the Yorkshire moors funnily enough ;) )

We stayed in a Golden Oak cabin at the Keldy Cabins location. Also forgot to say the washing machines on site were all out of order too. Not good when you have 2 young children and your staying for a week.

Can you connect a dvd player/xbox 360 to the tv?

What I mean by this, can you actually get access to the back of the tv?

The wii is already plugged in?

From what i can remember of my visit, there is a panel near the tv where you can plug in a hdmi or component conenction, but best talk to the site to confirm though
