I was reminded over the last couple of days, with the weather getting a bit warmer that I need to get the aircon in my car recharged as I never got 'round to it last year and so checked and Kwik-Fit is still doing it for £44.95.

I know this was posted last year, and is probably common knowledge to some, but thought it might a good time to remind everybody about it before the weather turns cold again!

whatever you do, dont give them your contact details for future offers etc, they have my landline and i have received 4 blank calls from them today i think its an automated thing, and this is after i told them to take my landline number off their database!!!

Always give mobile numbers.

It's an alright deal, but it was as low as £25 over the winter...

if you spend £50 or more, say on a tyre, then aircon is £25

also, they will price match any local tyre dealer as long as they can confirm the price with them
they quoted me £110 for a michelin 205/45/16 but matched the local garage price of £78
so I had the tyre and aircon refill for less than they quoted for the tyre :-D

Air con recharges are around this figure at most garages.

Just as well as there is a leak somewhere - he doesn't do leaks though. So bare that in mind.

I've driven cars with air con most of my life and have never had to "charge" any of them. Sounds strange to me...

That's pretty good, but I like to stay loyal to my local, excellent garage. He doesn't do aircon though! Besides, I don't need any new tyres or an exhaust at the moment.

Is this true? I'm sure last year when I was looking but never got around to it, this was by far the cheapest, most being almost double this - I guess I was looking in all the wrong places.

I got my current car about this time last year, it's a 2002 model, but has done 140000 miles and the aircon isn't really any colder than the cold air setting. Some people, admittedly those trying to sell the recharge to you, say every couple of years. Having said that I used to have a car which was fine all the time I had it.

If you don't run it through the winter for at least 30 mins per week your asking for trouble . Aircon gas has lubricating oil in it & this lubricates any seals in the system , no lubrication , seals go brittle & crack , you have a leak .

Aircon isn't only for cooling , it is also used to purify the air coming into the vehicle whether hot or cold . If you have climate control , set it & forget it other than too increase or decrease temperature , it will switch itself on/off whenever needed .

"as I never got 'round to it last year "

Last year I waited until it got hot...and waited...and waited...and waited. Nope, never got round to it either!

wouldnt trust them, find them a terrible company, they even do windscreens, dent and scratch removing aswell, would you let them loose on your 30k motor??

So long as you frequently give your aircon a blast, you should NEVER need to 'recharge' your air conditioning in your car. It's not included in any servicing as a standard procedure (unless some posher brands include it - I don't know - I have an ST170 and even though it's £300 for a full service, no recharge ;) )

Clever marketing and scare-mongering. I bet they've parted many folk from their money for no reason ...

It is not part of the cars normal service, it is something that needs to be done extra - if it's needed at all.

I can only find mention of it at £49.98 on their website. Was it a special offer!

no it was their normal leaflet with fitting, repair and care prices, picked it up back in end of feb sometime, maybe was a mis-print.
