I know you can buy this content from the PlayStation Store for around the same amount, but if you prefer the physical asset (with the ability to re-sell at a later date), or your hard drive is getting full then you may wish to purchase the Blu-ray Disc version of the "WipEout HD" [PS3] title plus the "WipEout HD Fury" Expansion Pack.

If you do, then you're in luck... GAME, Gamestation, & GamePlay have all reduced their prices to £17.98.

The product is also worth up to 180 GAME Reward points if you are a GAME Reward Card holder & may also be able to use this item as a (larger) "filler" for the various money off GAME vouchers available at present.

Developed by SCE Studio Liverpool with graphic rendering up to 1080p at 60 frames per second with a Dolby 5.1 surround soundtrack.

Not my idea of fun because the colour scheme does not agree with my vision deficiency issues, but I believe I am in a minority not enjoying the franchise to date.

Summary taken from the GAME web site:

There's no bigger racing experience than WipEout HD Fury on Blu-ray Disc

Insane speeds, breathtaking graphics, online racing and a pumping dance soundtrack - thats the bestselling PlayStation®Network game WipEout HD for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3). Now, the complete anti-gravity racing experience is being released on a single Blu-ray Disc that will combine not just the original WipEout HD title a stunning High Definition reworking of the greatest tracks from the iconic franchise but also the Fury expansion pack. The resulting package will give racers 14 reversible racetracks to race solo, against friends or against eight players online, 12 teams to choose from, a huge arsenal of combat weapons to take opponents down with, two whole campaigns to complete and a soundtrack packed with some of the biggest names in dance music.

* Developer: Sony
* Publisher: Sony

When this deal was first listed QuidCo at Game.co.uk was 9% (for Software).
This percentage has now been reduced (in line with GameStation.co.uk & GamePlay.co.uk) to 6%.

UPDATED [23/12/2009]: Prices now... £17.98 at Gamestation.co.uk, £16.98 at GAME.co.uk, & £15.98 at Gameplay.co.uk

I'd rather the disc too:)
#4
Good spot Fanpages - heat added

Indeed, the disc has resale value, even if Wipeout games have traditionally lost value quite quickly, haveing SOME resale value is better than none what so ever, besides, I own all previous versions from PS1. PS2 ans PSP, so this will go nicely in my collection at last, refused to buy it as a download!!!

Nice one fp,

Mike..

Excellent - thank you, hubby will be pleased chrimbo day.

I agree I do worry for the future if the PSP go is how they are going to do things, imagine if all games were only available direct from Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, there wont be any more second hand or cheap games from dropping prices etc.
#8
One of the best games ever! Everyone has to buy this, cmon! :-)
#9
thankyou

Ordered cheers OP

But PSN sells Wipeout HD and the expansion pack for £17.99 - I don't see the bargain.

Because you can sell on afterwards. Even if you only do for a fiver (and you're probably looking more likely at £10+) then the game costs less than buying it via PSN.

Excellent game, graphics and gameplay amazing!
#13
gutted they dont do wipeout for xbox.. i love this game!
#14
physical format's ftw!
#15
I have never been much of a downloader. Picked this one up for £15 from smyths when they had that £5 in the paper.
#16
This game is amazing, plus it's very long so you get a lot of gameplay for your money.
#17
Don't forget your Quidco too.

Yes, as I mentioned in my opening post, QuidCo at GAME is back to 9% at present.

TopCashBack also offers 9% with an extra 1% Extra Cashback (bringing the total to 10%) from 26 October to 31 December 2009.

If you are an ipoints.co.uk member you can gain 8 ipoints for every £1 spent.

and your also getting an expansion pack with this disc version

your getting wipeout HD plus the FURY expansion Pack

digital downloads are ridiculously overpriced

how can a shop sell the same game with the expansion for the same price with all the middlemen still able to get their cut of money from the product, doesn't make sense does it ?

didgital downloads is bad people losing their jobs in manufacturing to sales so that sony can sell at the same price direct from them, poor form to be honest, no wonder their pushing this digital download technology so hard

Any idea if there is any more DLC planned for this game?

I only have a 360 but plan to get a PS3 at some point in order to experience this game. How active is the online community?
#22
Hmmm....tempted but unsure. I just recieved £60 worth of PSN vouchers for £40, so I could download it. But like others here, I prefer physical formats (though I don't waste time with reselling).

I guess I'll just hold this off until the game becomes even cheaper or PS3 HDDs become cheaper. Whichever one comes first I guess!

Oh, and I read in some WIpeout HD thread here that this game is excusive to Game/Gamestation only. It is not. Simply Game also sell this game.
#23
Damn, wish I knew it was available as a physical item before I downloaded.

Amazing game though, well worth getting!

The item at SimplyGames.co.uk is out of stock (& more expensive) in any respect but yes, I had only seen the game for sale at GAME & Gamestation Stores (& online) until you mentioned it.

(Mind you, Simply Games have the title incorrect too!)

PS. My thoughts on digital formats as compiled in May 2008: "Virtually Physical".

Aren't simply games owned by Game?
#26
I picked this up from GAME for £19.99 a week after release it's the best WipEout in the series and the new game modes are a lot of fun. I'd rather have a disc version because I always like to own a hard copy of a game then a download. Great value for 2 of the best PSN and racing titles.
#27
Question, does it run from disc or does it install and then allow you to play without the disc? The download copy will (obviously) allow you to play without needing a disk in the reader, so that could be a downside of opting for this edition.

I'm going shopping in an hour or so... I'll pop into GAME & see if I can find one on the shelves to check the back for the minimum installation size for you.

Unless anybody else already had the boxed game, of course, & they can answer your query before then.

It alllows you to install the game from the disc but you still need the disc in the drive to play the game,

The reverse of the inlay in the game box states "1.9Gb Minimum" for installation.

Are you saying, sas1979, that this is optional?

Either way, if you have the space available but later need to remove the installation, it is far easier to re-install from disc rather than downloading again from the PlayStation Store/Network.

shops traditionally make a 50 percent off of products sold after all they need to pay their staff and make a profit also, this makes the world go round, Sony charging the same price for the downloadable product as the manufactured product is PURE GREED at the expense of thousands of jobs

Sony charging the Recommended Retail Price (or more than the standard retailers) is due to (informal) agreements with those retailers so that they will have an incentive to continue to sell Sony hardware.

If PS3 or PSP (Go) titles could be purchased cheaper from the PlayStation Store then there is no motivation for a customer to return to the high street to purchase games at all. The sale of games is where the retailer makes the most profit; not only because of the higher profit margins but also because for every console sold a typical consumer purchases more than the purchase price of the hardware with perpetual software purchases.
