These same modules are for sale on ebay for £23.50 but the guy has been nice enough to give a complete list of all the notebooks it will fit with pics too so if you want to see if yours is included take a peek at Item number 230210934821

Wouldnt a dongle be better? I bought from dx for about 3 quid and it works super. Does require a usb port though.

Thanks a bunch MikeT!
I skipped this option when I ordered my Vostro 1700, and now I regret it.
I see from the guy's ebay page that it's compatible with the Vostro 1700, so I'm going to order!

For most yes I would agree a dongle does the job, doesnt require you to strip down your notebook and can work with your desktop as well.

This is really for the tecki types of member who want to have what they regret not having spec'd when they bought, its nice to have it built in, but I have warned in the OP that its not for everyone

Installing one of these is almost as easy, if not easier than replacing HDD and RAM. You unscrew a button and remove the cover, slide the card in, replace the cover and tighten the screw. Job done. At least that's how it works on my m1710.

Dont worry, it can stand a couple of cold votes.

If it freezes I will know not to post such a deal again, its not exactly mainstream is it ;-)

I see on a Vostro 1700 Dell gives the option of "Dell™ Wireless 355 Bluetooth 2.0 Module (up to 3Mbps) with Enhanced Data Rate" for £15.
#10
the 355 has been around for a while now, the 360 is definitely newer. Cant say for sure if it's better though.

If you look at the spec for the 360 it also says
Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) capability allows for data transfer rates of up to 3 Mbps

Looks like free postage has just ended.
I must have missed it by minutes :(
#12
yeah... sad. it says for latitude notebooks in the description anyway :(

Does anyone know where I can get or find out about getting something similar for my HP laptop? I thought it came with built-in bluetooth but have just tried to find it and it's not there.

I searched google but kept getting drivers pages.

Happy 10th Birthday to Bluetooth SIG today BTW!

You can have a look at partsurfer.hp.com for hp parts. Alternatively you can always try fleabay, i have seen some bluetooth modules for HP notebooks before.

Same here :(

I have BT built in on my macbook and it's so much better not using a dongle.

My other idea is finding some way of hiding the dongle within the casing of the Vostro and leading a usb connector out the back to connector - but I'm just as likely to ruin my Vostro lol so maybe not.

Mine was delivered today.
