Any idea what chipset it is? is it 64bit compatible etc

In my experience cheaper wifi stuff can be AWFUL, on the other hand it could be a rebranded version of something else, if we knew the chipset it would help decide

from what i can tell its suppose to be the same as the edimax mini adapter which aprently is very good for what it is.

There is better one on play.com, of GetNet, better configuration.
why would anyone go for this?

GetNet GN-531U Wireless N USB Adapter

i think mainly for the size no sticking out dongle.
#5
yes the edimax one is excellent, mine cost £10 from amazon and has been superb for 10 months, might be worth paying the extra £3 for something which is known to be excellent but if this is as good its a great buy :),if you will be using these dongles on the move i recommend buying a mini one, much more convenient too use on the move.

Have two of the Edimax and work well with a desktop and a Mac, Is the £3 saving worth the risk, Pays your money takes your choice, but does seem very cheap

It is for connecting your PC to a wireless router.

or a laptop if your built in wireless card fails(which mine did) or you want the higher speed, that's as long as your router supports it of coarse:).
