The player is Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, a witcher. Entangled in the political turmoil that engulfed Temeria, Geralt helped quell the rebellion of the Order of the Flaming Rose. Soon after, he saved King Foltest’s life when the monarch was attacked by a witcher-like assassin. He continues to protect the king, serving as his bodyguard as Foltest strives to bring peace to his kingdom. The Order’s last bastions have yielded to the royal army, yet one more task remains - the Baroness La Valette announced her secession from the realm, and her fortress must be taken. A month after the attempted assassination, Foltest’s armies stand at the gates of La Valette Castle, preparing for a final assault. Still at Foltest’s side, Geralt is among them, unable to begin his personal quest to discover the mysterious assassin’s origin and identity…

1. Very unlikely. 2. This is the steam sale.

Should I play the first one (from a storyline perspective) or can I just dive into this?

Are we really stupid enough that we need a Hot UK Deal posted for a game that is plastered on the main page of Steam, on the first day of the Steam Sales? The same sale that is plastered all over facebook, all over twitter, all over every single game related website?

I'd much rather a single thread if we're going to be posting deals from the front page of Steam throughout the Summer sale, with only hidden gems being posted as individual deals. The gaming section of HUKD just gets clogged up at this time of year with deals that are here for everybody to see.

Your opinion which you're entitled to, here's a scenario that conflicts with your opinion >

I voted hot, I don't check Steam, and I don't game often but I do pick up the odd game for a bit of casual gaming, so I was happy to see this deal. However I do check this site more than is probably healthy :)

Maybe it's best to keep an open mind.

Lol complaining that a deal got posted on a deal site...

The steam deals change all the time. Its not like those tesco codes that just get passed around with different products...

Jeez

As much as it bugs me to see every single individual on sale Steam title listed on here one by one, I have to admit that it does actually highlight the best deals when they gain heat, which is the whole point of this website. Heat added and game bought, thanks op.

Bargain, it's worth a lot more than this.

Yes, ideally you should. The first one is a very good game so don't think of it as a chore. :)

Also W2 lets you import saved games from the first game, so don't be surprised if a character that you were **** to in the first game, will repay you in the second part. I was quite impressed by this to be honest.

You need to check with your card issuer, they vary. Could be 1%, could be a fiver. All depends on your T&Cs.

I have the "New & Improved Version 2.0" of this so does anyone know if there is any difference between the 2 versions?

No, that is The Enhanced Edition. It's the only version they sell these days.

Would this work on a Core i5 3317u laptop with intel HD4000? low settings? would a samsung evo ssd have any speed improvement?

I know the minimum requirements don't say so, but I've played games such as Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Castlevania lords of shadow 2 on this laptop on low settings with decent 20-30fps...

Should be OK on low settings. Might have the occasional stutter though, this game can still trouble some modern rigs on high-max.

is this any good?

Is it a game in the vein of oblivion and skyrim?

Bit more hardcore and story driven than those but definitely good.

This game gives my desktop problems... it only gives me 20fps regardless of the quality settings. My issue isn't isolated there are a lot of people who experience low fps on this game for no apparent reason.

Well, for starters it's mighty convenient. secondly it's quite smart to crowd source a list of deals. Not stupid at all. I come on HUKD every day to check for deals on all sorts of stuff, across all categories. It would take me ages to go and visit the homepage for every website/retailer that might have a deal on that day. Do you check the steam homepage daily? the tesco one? asda one? Argos homepage? ikea? b and q? gog.com? Facebook? twitter? Instagram? flickr?

and if you do check all possible sites, might I recommend a thorough revaluation of your life and purpose in life.

Just shows who is the stupid one for making that comment.

What I hate about this game, the story is so compelling and you want to get through it and learn of all the different aspects behind everything that happens (incredibly vague and slightly cryptic but avoiding spoilers.) however you'll go through a town only to see a notice board asking you to go hunt something which just makes you think "OK. This sounds pretty cool." You then look at how long you've been playing and realise you're still on the 4th/5th quest of the storyline.

That me give an example. I was asked to hunt a particularly large creature terrorising a town. Only to find myself starting the quest, receiving the required info. Next few hours however I'm drunk in a tavern arm wrestling people to try and earn a possible sword, only to learn of the love life of a dwarf.

Buy it guys, it's good fun. Well worth the punt.
