WOLF CREEK is a grim and disturbing horror film, based on actual events in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE vein. It's also beautifully shot, with director Greg McLean (in his feature film debut) making the otherworldly majesty of Australia's outback emerge as a part of the story. Cassandra Magrath and Kesti Morassi play the two young British girls travelling with their Aussie friend, Ben (Nathan Phillips), to Wolf Creek, the remote location of a giant meteor crater. When their car breaks down, a jovial, Crocodile Dundee-type named Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) offers to tow them to his even more remote auto camp. What happens next ensures, among other things, that surviving audience members will never think of Crocodile Dundee in quite the same happy way again. In addition to McLean's painterly use of scenery in establishing mood, the film benefits from the slow, methodical build-up of character detail; the actors are given space to develop a believable rapport, something all too rare in this kind of film. The characters are people, not stock slasher-film types, and this makes the ensuing scenes of cruelty and violence all the more unbearable. This is one carefully crafted, genuinely scary horror film.

one of those films which are very lossely based on real events.things dont add up when you think it is supposed to have happened.it would have been better as a stand alone film without the based on true events tag. i agree with you about the head on the stick.it is a good film

"head on a stick"

I don't think I will ever get that line out my head. A good, if not disturbing, film, but not one I would want to see again in a hurry

Never watched this, but from your post it sounds like it achieved the objective of its genre, i.e. being horrifying.:-D

No, like its so realistic. It really is horrible, its not supernatural and it could easily represent a real life situation. I would never watch it again it was awful, its like watching a recording of an actual murder. Its the most disturbing film I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

WOLF CREEK is a grim and disturbing horror film, based on actual events

If you watch the film, you may notice just how little of the narrative could be supplied by the sole survivor - I don't think that it a spoiler to mention there is only one, given this genra. Not a good film and about as much of a true story as Fargo.
If you want a good horror survival movie get The Descent from CDWow for £2.99, or Switchblade Romance for £4..99 from play if you want a good slasher

Really disturbing, terrifying film. If you want to know what it would feel like to witness proper murders, then this is the film for you. Have to say the guy who plays the psycho killer plays the part magnificantly though.

Interesting that a lot of people think this is disturbing/terrifying I thought the film was pretty poor and no more real/disturbing than any other 'horror' film.

Best price I've seen though, so voted hot, even if it is a crappy film :p

this is a nasty film, as in disturbing, but i have to say eden lake is the one that made me feel sick...its just so well acted and again, as other people have said about wolf creek , it could, and does happen...:-(

I know what you mean. Eden Lake is happening every day in Britain more overtly. You don't need an outback rural serial killer to have your life potentially threatened every day in a country that fails to protect the public from thugs on your high street.
